2001 civic Ex power loss
Heres the problem, the car usually drives fine but sometimes it starts acting up (usually in periods of stop and go traffic when it is hot out). The car drives fine until it feels like it is loosing power and starts to misfire. The car wants to shut off and when it does it is hard to get it to start back up. If you let the car sit for about 15-20 min. it starts right back up and feels normal. This has been going on for a few months, help!! Car only throws a CEL for secondary 02 or cat.
I have an '01 Civic EX with the EXACT same issue! 203,000 miles. Did you ever get an answer? The dealer is telling me the cam shaft is worn, and wants to replace the engine. I don't believe them, as it works perfectly most of the time. I'm thinking it could have something to do with the V-Tech module, which we have replaced once already. Thanks for any leads to this you may be able to provide!
That problem is most often either a bad ignition coil or ICM. You can heat your car up till the problem is happening, quickly remove your cap and rotor in a parts store parking lot, take out the coil and ICM and have the store test both a few times in a row.
Check the PGM-FI Main Relay, it is susceptible to heat.
A random misfire is almost always due to a fuel issue, and problems with the PGM-FI Main Relay are common on Honda/Acura, but almost always an easy, [cheap] fix.... http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/mainrelay.html 94
