Default 2000 Civic Si died at work need help quick!

Hey guys, I really need some help here my Civic was acting pretty normal (has been misfiring rarely from being to rich and smells like gas but nothing other than that) on the way to work headlights dimmed and all the lights dimmed in the cabin, not off but dim, and the speedo went to 0, the tach still worked though, when I got to work I got a feeling that it might not turn on so I tried to, and it wouldn't turn over and was acting like the headlights had been left on. I'm really wondering what it is? My work hopefully won't tow me today but I don't think it'll be more than a day before they will so any help will do to get it started. thanks

So your car lost power until it stalled. Now it won't restart because it doesn't have enough power.

killa31, this is a good one. If I only knew which car parts generated and stored power, I could tell you to start checking those. But unfortunately I don't know what those two parts are.

Cross your fingers, try the key again, maybe magic will happen?

Lol actually it did start up and drove for about 4 or 5 minutes but then lost all power in the motor and would only drive at about 1 m/hr. Im guessing its the alternator or the battery but the battery is brand new only have had it for about 8 months maybe.

check the alternator

If the radio turned off and back on points to the alternator. Might need to service or replace

BTW loose power as in you mashing the accelerator and it bogging down ?

Alternator went through that random problem last month

Yes bogged down, I got it on the road and then within seconds it was dying to the point where it was more rolling and the accelerator wouldn't go. How do I check if it is the alternator? They are kind of expensive to just throw one at it if it isn't that.

use a multimeter to test charging voltage

if you do not have a multimeter as a quick check start the car then disconnect the positive lead . If the car dies check alternator and other wiring relating to it.

If the car stays running with the positive battery lead off you have another issue

Ok so the car didnt die after disconnecting the positive lead. I only let it run for about a minute before just shutting it off though, should I have let it go longer?

no that was enough time

still get the alternator checked because parts could also start to fail when they get hot

Did you try to use the car again?

I'm scared to drive it now for fear it'll break down on the way to work. I've had distributor problems before a couple years ago so maybe that? I also wired up a new o2 sensor a few weeks ago and I e been running really rich, like instead of 21mpgs I'm getting 15mpgs... Don't know if that could be something with the o2 or not just something I remeber doing.

The Check engine light was on beforehand yes it isnt now. It was on due to misfires though, which is why i replaced the O2 sensor. Thank you guys again for the help, love that I can ask a question and people are kind enough to help out

Unplug each injector one at a time and see if it makes a difference. If one doesn't that's your bad cylinder, could be a bad injector or wiring.
