2.25 muffler on a 2.5 catback piping
hey all, do you guys think its a bad idea to install a 2.25 muffler to a 2.5 catback piping? i just have the muffler already that's y i ask. thanks
Yes its a bad idea if your trying to improve HP. All your doing is restricting airflow. Pointless to even have 2.5" piping in the first place.. Thats what i think.
Ugh...
You'll be just fine, man. No worries. Yeah, it will inhibit flow a little, but no more than a baffled muffler over a straight through design. Plus, any silencer in a muffler drops the diameter smaller than the 2.25" you're worried about. The worst you'll lose is 1-2hp, but you'll most likely gain torque in the low to mid range.
thanks for the replies! but ya im just doing this because i have the cat back(greddy sp2) installed in my car and the muffler is kinda old and sounds really crappy. so since i have this new muffler already, i thought ill just cut the old muffler and put the new one. anyway, just wondering, why would i gain torque in the low and mid range by doing this? thanks
