Default 1st gear question

I was wondering the easiest way to tell the difference between a B16 1st and a GSR 1st. I'm trying to find a GSR 1st gear to mate with my 4.4 FD. Thanks

if they are both from hydro trannies, aren't they both the same ratio with dual-cone synchros? i know that for the jdm 4.7 fd the 1st counter gear ID is different since it goes over a collar (the usdm one doesn't). dunno if any jdm 4.4s are different from usdms this way. if it doesn't use the dual-cone synchro, the ls 1st should be the same. (all of the hydro 1st gear B ratios are 3.23:1.)

ok, apparently the hydro LS doesn't use dual-cone synchros between 1-2, but the 94 b16 del sol tranny has them, as does the 99-00 si tranny, and even the 92-93 b17a gsr, like the b18c trannies- gsr and itr.

the sites linked above have been known to have flawed info before, but it seems like you'll have no problem as long as you use 1st gears from 2 hydro b vtec trannies with the 4.4fd.

That's what I thought.....if they are both from a hydro tranny and share the exact gear ratio....in theory, they should be interchangeable. But someone told me otherwise, and I am just trying to varify the information. Because I have a 4.4 out of a GSR, and all I can find are 1st gears from an SI.

they're the same. it's the fd ring gears which are different. while they have the same # teeth on countershaft and ring gears, the IDs of the rings differ, since the hydro ls and b16 diffs have a smaller housing than the hydro gsr/itr/ctr diffs.
