10 bucks if u solve my prob.
my d15 is overheating at idle, took thermo out yet still does it, lower rad hose not getting hot, poured coolant through lower rad hose to flush out air pockets, fan is working, has a cheap mugen cap on it , could this be prob?why are signs of bad water pump besides, coolant leaking from it, ill put 10 bocks in ur paypal account if u fix it,
Go geta factory rad cap for it. Those cheap mugen ones suck alot of the time. Is it just overheating at idle? What about when you drive it? Are you losing any coolant anywhere?
not losing coolant anywhere, if the car is overheating and blowing out white smoke im not gonna drive it, so yes it would overheat while driveing
WS6Dreams,
I think what he meant was that it doesn't smoke from tailpipe.
jspeck29,
what I would suggest doing is measuring temp of upper hose and measure temp of lower hose, if they are close to each other, then probably getting adequate flow.
If I remember correctly, you said that you had removed t-stat right?
If you have a big temp difference between upper and lower hoses (25 degrees or more) you may not be getting adequate flow from water pump.
Let me ask you a few questions though before we all start jumping to conclusions.
1. if you turn on heater at idle, does engine temp come down at all?
2. does temp come down when driving? you were kind of vague on this before.
3. does there seem to be an unusually high amount of coolant in overflow?
4. does the coolant in the overflow seem to bubble while engine is running?
5. any unusual noises in engine? (knocking, rattles, clatter, etc.)
if you can answer these questions for us, we may be able to get a better evaluation of your problem and be able to give you some feedback to your issue.

1. the heter does not warm up at all that how i forst relized the prob.
2.temp just gets hotter as i drive
3.no high amt in over flow jsut blows steam
4.no bubbles
5. it kinds sounds like the pump is making weird noise but not leaing any thing
like i said no coolant is flowing in lower rad hose.

you have a coolant thermostat right before the lower hose comes out of the engine. That could be your problem. Change your thermostat it only takes about 10 min. and all you need is a 10 mm socket and rachet. 98ctr
PS: make sure that your engine is cold.

thats no prob, cause i have taking the thing out and it still does it, i know the thermo if in good working order cause it opened when i boiled it in a pot of water, any other suggestions
Sounds like a clogged radiator. take the car to a radiator shop and let them diagnose the problem. If it is the radiator they can flush it out for you and pressure test it also.
Other things it could be:
-Radiator cap not holding pressure. Buy a new one.
-Radiator fan not working (or blowing the wrong direction). Test with a piece of paper
-pump impeller broken or not spinning on shaft (never seen it happen on a honda). Remove pump and look at it.
-without a thermostat, some motors tend to run hot because it makes the coolant flow too fast through the radiator and not cool enough. So put a new one back in.
-blown headgakset, when you blow a headgakset you WILL know. Clouds of white smoke from the exhaust, oil will look like chocolate milk on the dipstick, oil in the coolant, etc.
If you've tried all of these things and still have a problem it may be fuel injection related. Clogged or faulty injectors can cause your car to run lean and overheat no matter how well your cooling system is working.

When did mugen start being ''cheap''?
I'm assuming you mean ''knock-off''
I would buy an oem radiator cap and it could be your headgasket..Is it running like ****?
Throw in some more details next time...goodluck!

usually when the water pump is going bad, it makes a grumbling noise like as if some little rocks are tumbling around in your engine, your water pump could be the culprit..
have you tried turning your heater on to the hottest setting and letting it run for a few minutes while the car is idling ?

could be the water pump, but ive got 100 bucks says its the radiator is clogged with crap. that same thing happened to my dirty d and 48 bucks later and a cleaned out radiator and no more overheating!
if i were you i would replace your water pump
you said that it was making wierd noises, dead give away
yoiu need to replace the pump
and if (i highly doubt it) you radiator is clogged i have one
that you can buy from me for cheap

thanks for all the help guys, but my dad fix it for me while i was at work, i still dont know what the prob was, i think he just flush out air pockets and he said he had to do something wit lower rad hose,i let the car warm up a few mins and drove it to work which is a mile awy then drove it to my gurls hose on break which is 8 miles from work and i havent had any prob, i quess i ll see if it is really fixed when i go to school mon which is 35 mile commute ,
thanks guys
thanks guys
If I'm to understand correctly, you said your waterpump was leaking.
If it is leaking, replace the pump. Also, reinstall a good thermostat,(this is critical for proper cooling
in street driven cars). You may want to spray the radiator fins with a garden hose to help remove
debris that might have become lodged in them. Double check the operation of the cooling fan,
it should come on at about the same temp.the t-stat is supposed to open,as well as when the A/C
is on. Outside of these suggestions, you may want to have the cooling system flushed, and the radiator checked for proper flow.
Good luck
