Default 1.5 vetec limited????

iv just bought a 1998 5 door 1.5 vetec. it pulls good and is fine driving but wont go above 115mph, its only doing 5k when i get to 115mph and it feels as if the car is limited to this speed.
are these cars limited in speed or is there a problem with my engine

engine code is d15z8

Hi, welcome to H-T. From what I have hear of those engines the transmission is your issue. I couldn't find too much info on it but it also isnt that high of a powered engine, I believe max at 114hp. Here is a quick link I pulled up on the search up in the top corner, first place to start is there. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=336907. And before anyone starts to poke fun, its spelled VTEC, good luck with your car

it's called a speed limiter. it's like hitting a revlimiter but it's speed based.
It's built into the ECU, only good way to get rid of it is to convert to OBD1, tune and disable the speed limiter.

it's spelled VTEC (as stated above)
D15Z8 = no VTEC (as far as I know, I could be wrong)
and why are you trying to go above 115mph? no track will have long enough straights to get there with the power you have, and hopefully you're not exceeding the speed limit that bad. (and admitting it)

The D15Z8 was one of the 3-stage VTEC engines, nothing special. And I totally agree there is no reason to be going that fast No need for that trust me, I've been there.

the engine has a revlimiter of 5000rpm for 5th gear, its normal. its bascially a speed cut.

im not sure, it was my understanding that the vtec e engine was on the us spev HX model civic was a 1.6 and had roller cams.

i know us spec civic dx 1.5 non-vtec from 92-95 have the same rev limit in 5th gear.

Your a retard now pay attention..vtec cams have TWO profiles only. when the pins in the rockers lock, you are on the vtec cam. there is no such thing as "3 stage". that is the funniest thing i've ever heard. You should be SMACKED for that. Anyway, your a dumb ***. The only thing CLOSE to that is GSR motors have secondaries, in the intake manifold, that open up at a certain RPM. then, the vtec crosses over a bit later. Maybe that is what you mean. still, the secondaries have nothing to do with vtec. YOU A DOUCHe

dude, shut up...there is a such thing as a 3-stage vtec system, it incorporates vtec-e and the normal vtec function into one.

notice the dual solenoids and different rocker design? you try so hard to be wrong

theres a difference between a engine with vtec-e making About 90hp and one with vtec-e until 3000k rpms, and from then on it has the same power output as a jdm d15b with a normal vtec cross-over. all of the advances towards the i-vtec technology.
