02 type s blown motor? HELP!!!
ok, so heres the deal... In the midst of moving back to nj my car fell off a u haul trailer.. nothing crazy.. basicly just slid off the chains caught it.. ( think it might have been in gear at the time? idk wtf they did.anyway so i took it to a mechanic where i was told that my engine jumped timing. f(_) ( K!!! ok i know a bit about the k series, enough to know that they run really tight ( high ) compression, my question is .. what are my chances that it's just a few bent valves??? is it possible that my bottom end could still be good? i know heads arent that expensive.. cheaper than another 2500 - 3k for a decent motor, and the install i can do myself. at this point wtf am i to do? car has been sitting there for months and im desperate.. i just wanna drive it again.. asap. what are my options? am i beat? whats up? i need help... any suggestions would help. the car has like 120 on it, but the body is in good condition. i could swing a new motor if i had to, but you never know what you're going to get.. i fear if i buy a motor n try n get a cheap price ill end up getting another problem.FEAR THAT WITH A CAPITAL F... what do i do? thanks . if you could email me, it would be appreciated. tankone79@aim.com.. thanks guys.
fishy? lol. not at all. that's exactly what happened.the douchebags at the u haul place put blocks of wood under the wheels so i would have clearance on the front bumper to load it. thats where the problem happened. the blocks of wood slipped out and the car slid off.. apparently in gear, and jumped the timing. whats fishy bout that? lol. ur right tho i guess its inevitable that i will have to pull the head off. how hard is it to pull the head on it? do you know where i can get a manual that shows the process? thanks for your help, and sorry if my story SOUNDED fishy in some way. but believe me - nothing fishy bout me sitting here with no car for months.. pissed off, never fishy - LOL. thanks a lot.
Th fishy part is that it would jump timing just because it slipped off some blocks of wood I guess anything is possible.
Have you checked the cam timing yourself?
It is also possible that even if timing has skipped a tooth that no damage was done, I would check the timing before I pulled the head. 94

i took it to a shop where they compression tested it, & said that the compression was very low indicating an internal problem ( such as a bent valve..) idk tho i haven't had the time to pop the head off and give it a look yet. sucks if the car was sitting there for a year, and all it took was checking the timing. that would be a ****in riot!!going to give it a look this week.. see whats goin on. im looking into a k24/k20 frank as a possibility right now if a broken piston is the problem.. the motor had 120k on it but ran fine before all this happened... not like it was brand new tho ya kno? thanks for your insight.
oh and i was driving on the parkway doing 60mph plus when the car fell off, in gear, ignition off.. lol. only thing holding it were the safety chains. god only knows how long i was driving with it like that, couldnt see behind a 24 ft box truck. some guy rode up next to me and told me it fell off.. i pulled over, and the car would not start. i assumed the worst. maybe i was wrong, but i think @ that speed, the chances are slim that i didnt badly damage SOMETHING IN THE ENGINE. no?
that REALLY sucks. i was looking into getting a k24a2 block, and just buying the head anyway, and putting thek20a2 head on that.. atleast gain some hp/tq for christ sake!!! sheeet mannn. so confused. maybe ill take a long walk off a short cliff instead. end the madness all together.. do you know if have to use the k20a2 oil pump if i decide to use a k24a2 block/k20a2 head? i would prob use the rbc intake manifold/spacer/adapter and rsx s t/b.. and would i need the tsx accessories ( a/c p/s etc.. or do the rsx s mount up??) anything else have to be done to mate the k20a2 head to a k24a2 block??? kinda noobish to the k series engines / swap capabilities/possibilities. .. and VERY VERY STRESSED OUT bout this situation. havent driven my car in over a year now and it's starting to **** me off.

VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS... TRYING TO GET AROUND TO CHECKING THE TIMING MARKS TODAY.. IF NOT THEN IN THE VERRRRY NEAR FUTURE!!! SORRY IF I SOUND LIKE A GEEK, IM JUST SO F***IN HAPPY RIGHT NOW THAT I FOUND THE KEYS.. THIS SPEEDS UP THE PROCESS IN A MAJOR WAY. LET YOU KNOW WHAT MY FINDINGS ARE AS TO THE TIMING MARK ALIGNMENT ETC. AS SOON AS I CAN GET TO MY CAR & CHECK IT OUT! : )
sorry. since im a NOOB here im only allowed to send/ recieve a limited number of msgs. lol. anyway i dont know wether or not to take this as good or bad news, but its something to go off of. today i got the valve cover off of the car and i spun the crank to line up the timing marks to top dead center.. i noticed a GREAT amount of slack in the timing chain... this leads me to believe that my tensioner has either failed or broken due to the fall off of the trailor. so im thinking when the weather gets a little nicer maybe i will drop the engine and check the tensioner.. but heres the thing.. things really. i tried cranking it, and now instead of cranking, it does nothing. i had jumper cables hooked up to my girls truck so it had more than enough cranking power to crank.. so im just wondering, if i do get the engine out, and replace the tensioner, how do i know it will still start/run afterwards? lol.. would suck to go through all of that to end up back at square 1. with a no start situation.. damn this **** just gets deeper doesnt it? at that point i guess i could either (since i have the head out) have the head looked at, maybe leakdown test the cylinders and make sure the bottom end is ok? how do i really know i didnt bend a rod or something? i mean i was able to spin the crank by hand so i doubt its seazed up.. but felt a little tough to turn?? geez. do you have aim instant messenger btw??? thanks a lot man. appreciate your insight/ knowledge on this one.. oh and one more thing i did see the immobilizer light flash at one point is it possible that since the computer has been "away" from power so long the immobilizer is stopping me from cranking? and if so is there any way to bypass / fix that? im f #$%^%D!!!!!!!
timing marks looked like they could be a little off, but as i spun the engine.. i WATCHED IT jumping teeth due to the amount of slack in the chain.. lol. so it wouldnt matter anyway .. i kind of know the plan of action from here.. realign timing marks, check replace tensioner.. try and start with tension and good timing.. see where it goes from there.. or at that point would i just check compression in the cylinders ?? ok so im not 100% lol. but i kinda get it.... just wish it were an easier process. working in the driveway, no lift no garage, and the weather sucks..... needless to say.
