Its never a good idea to buy anything used. You dont know how bad the item was abused.

That's a stupid suggestion. If the seller has good vouches (and has been around for awhile), and can show you decent pictures of the item, you could find a good deal. I've purchased countless used parts through HT and other areas (junkyard?!? ebay?), and have saved a ridiculous amount of money. Only twice have I ever had a problem, and one of those was a $15 carpet that the loser never shipped to me.

For used shocks, you'll want to know approximate mileage, overall condition (rust? has it been in an accident?), is everything included (spanner wrenches if height-adjustable threaded body), and type of road driven on (bumpy road/potholes = bad news for shocks). I scored my Ohlins for $500 this way years ago. You will be taking a gamble, but with the right criteria met you can minimize the risk.

Most coilover companies offer to rebuild each coilover for around 100-125 so if the kit usually costs 1500 and you can get it for really cheap it might be worthwhile to rebuild them.

Just be aware that not all shocks are rebuildable. Off the top of my head, Tokico Illuminas I believe are not. I don't feel like trying to remember the others that are also not.

those arent worth it though. Im actually picking up kw variant 2's for 230 dollars from a site sponsor on ephatch. The front right strut is blown and everything is included no rust so when you don the math these coilovers will be like new for around 900 bucks. New for the ep3 they are over 1600. Sound good to me.
