Basically preload is what happens when the spring in an adjustable coilover is compressed from changing the height using the lower spring perch. For more details, you might want to search for "preload" in the archives.

preload is compressing your springs.
For example, TEIN SS and sleeves coilovers use preload to adjust the height of the car, because they only have 1 perch for each coilover/shock. For TEIN FLEX, each coilover have 2 perches, so you can adjust the height indepently without touching the preloads. I hope this help.

well i read that basically preload is what u do for the shock so that if the suspension hangs freely with out the tire touching the ground the spring wont have any play. so what u are sayin with the 2 perches u can make it so theres no play and less strain on the spring at the same time as lowering the car. im gettin it now. thanx guys.reason i ask is cause my buddy club racing specs are on there way to my house

basically, preload is to set where do you want your shock piston at when the car is on the ground, as long as u got good travel, then preload is not as important.

I used to have BUDDY CLUB N+ SPEC coilovers on my EG, it's bascially the same as the one that yu ordered. But yeah for the preload, just let the spring touches the top and perch, dont compress it. Go to clubRSX.com and go to the suspension section, look around, there a thread that will show you what to do and how to install and set the preload right!!!
