Default Is this normal

well guys,
i just installed a traction bar on my 99 civic hatch and since the car was on jacks and turned the steering and noticed my tires rub on the radius arms!

is this normal?

my front control arms are Si and my rims are 15x7 that have 35mm offset and 225 wide tires!

one friend told me changing my Si control arms to normal DX/CX control arms might fix the problem, is this possible?....who has encoutered such problem like i did and how did you fix this?

the cx/dx arms are a bit skinnier but then you would not be able to use your si front sway bar either. I would recomment maybe some 205 series tires first. How much clearance do you need?

well i need allot of clearance..as i remember i barely turn my steering wheel 1/2 a turn if my memory doesnt fail me....i was told the Si suspension forks wont fit so now i need a DX front LCA and DX lower suspension forks

are you sure about the SI front sway bar crexer? well they are stock Si if they wont fit i rather upgrade it to something better than buying stock DX!

any more ideas guys?

1/2 turn on your steering wheel barely turns the wheel at all. Normally the wheel should turn at least 1 1/2 times. If your tires hit the traction bar's radius rods after only 1/2 turn of the steering wheel, you need to get rid of that traction bar and get something different.

i will double check again, just to make sure i dont spend money for nothing!

so when using Si control arms i should expect some rubbing on the radius arms? am trying to understand is this normal or not? and yea i think my steering locks/stops after 1 1/2 turn when either fully turned right or left

You're going to need to post pictures of this. Something is wrong - either the product you bought is for the wrong car, or you installed it incorrectly. I don't see how changing the lower control arms could possibly help.

I had plenty of clearance to the stock radius rods at full lock when I ran 225/45-15 tires with 15x7" +40mm wheels on my CRX.

well the point where the traction bar radius arms go on the front LCA is different on the SI and DX! so the person who told me to use DX LCAs says the traction bar radius arms will move away from the spindle more to give more clearance! so why you dont think it would work!

How?

You had to drill your own holes to bolt them up to the Si LCAs, did you not? Or did you weld the brackets on?

I know with the JimFab bars in particular - in addition to sveeral other brands - the radius rod mounts utilize the two studs that hold the two sections of the cast control arm together. The Si stamped control arm is all one piece, and doesn't have these studs.

So how did you install them?

well i have a FR kit and it came with brackets that bolt on where the suspension forks bolt on the lca, i know i dont have to drill/weld anything!

i just found another way that could fix this problem, now do you think using a 1/4" space on the wheel i will get more clearance?

That's called fixing the symptom, not the problem.

Running wheel spacers can sometimes cause more hassles than it eliminates.
