Default del sol lowering problem

I am helping a friend lower a 93 del sol, He bought the skunk 2 (2.5") lowering springs and Agx 4 way adjustable shocks. My problem is when you put the assembley together correctly the nut on top goes all the way down snug aginst the end of the threads without forming tension in the spring, Because the shocks are for 1.5" lowered. The car will hold tension on the spring but because the nut bottoms out it forms a space between the two bushings and the shock bracket. I am worred that play will cause an annoying clunking and possibly damage the shock. I know i should have a shock for 2.5" lowering springs but is there anyway these will work. Thank you very much.

As long as the spring is compressed (in tension) with the car on the ground, you should be ok. I'm guessing the shocks wont last very long though.

2.5" is very low. At that height, you will want to look into extending your front shock travel (try here). It will also be necessary to zero out all your suspension bushings. When you lower the car, your bushings will all be twisted. You need to loosen each bolt, and then re-torque them (with the suspension fully loaded).
