Default Coilover Recommendations.

Looking at buying some coilovers for the EG in the next couple of weeks. Dont have any intentions of racing this one like I have in the past but some spirited driving and basic commuting will be on the table. Looking to stay under $1000 for them and want dampening adjustability.

In the past I have had Ksport Kontrol, Tein Basics, Skunk 2 Pro, and BC. All of those treated me good but I didnt care for the Tein because they were too soft for what I like.

Who has real world experiences with any brands and what type of driving do you do with yours? Pictures of how yours sits would be great as well.

Thank you!

I've had buddy clubs and they corroded pretty quickly...like 1 year and sub 10k miles they were completely rusted.

I had megan racing and 2 of the springs cracked after 18 months and the car mainly sat in my garage.

Tiens were definitely too soft.

I have BC's on my 8th gen Si...8 years and 150k miles they're still holding together.

Progress is a good value, and they have many spring rates available. The CS2's work great for street and autocross, but do not have adjustable damping. For that you would need the CS3 which are just a couple hundred more, but still within your budget.

I have had a set of CS2 for several years now and the car is still winning it's class regionally.

I have ground control and koni yellows, that I installed in 2012, 340F, 250R and it is good for street and casual AX. They were a lot cheaper back in 2012 so not sure if they're still within your budget.

Not under $1k, but Cygnus X1s (custom build Fortune Auto) are awesome for the money. I've been on mine for exactly a year and couldn't be happier. X-1 Coilovers – Cygnus Performance

This gets you into a good quality monotube damper at a good price point, and Cygnus' customer service is great. They also sell off the shelf Fortune Autos cheaper than FA does directly.

There just isn't going to be much of anything in your price range in 2025 that is of any decent quality. I'm not even sure how Progress is managing to still sell theirs at 2010 prices.

It's amazing after like 25 years of this forum. This same exact question gets asked, in the same exact way.

Koni/GC or progress cs2 are fine.

Just don't consider anything like maxspeedingrod.

And consider replacing every ball joint and control arm with new factory like rubber bushings. Not polyurethane, that come in cheap aluminum arms.

Under $1K is a tall order, even today.

Stay away from TEIN's lower end stuff, not rebuildable nor have the adjustment/quality other brands have obtained over the years.

I had decent luck with Yonaka coilovers surprisingly for <$1K.

Lots of people use D2 Racing coilovers with success, usually those land ~$1K.

Koni/GC is a >$1K setup and is good still, today with some limitations. I had a set of Progress CS2's recently and I did not care for them. Found them bouncy regardless of height and can barely lower the car.

In his defense, the threads from long ago were littered with arguing post ****** that make it painful to extract useful information. Nonetheless, I have never been a fan of how the search function was presented for new people.

Not to mention that, things change. What was a relevant or leading brand/product 25 years ago is not the same as today.
