I currently have the DC2R swap on my 2000 Civic Hatchback and I want more braking power up front. So I started searching the interwebs for big brake kits only to realize that every "big brake kit" is $$$$ more than I am willing to spend. So I started looking at OEM alternatives to keep the cost down. At the very end I found an interesting combination that I would not have thought about.
The information here also applied to any EK9/DC2R swapped vehicles, 8th, 9th Gen Si as well as TSX
Alright, sorry for not having a write up on the previous post, I will now be correcting that problem.
First of all lets talk about the background story. I own a 2000 Honda Civic Hatchback CX, swapped a K20 into it, swapped in the 98+ DC2R suspension and brakes to take advantage of the 36mm Axle to make k swapping easier.
Been taking the car to local autocross event, lapping days and started going to some time attack events. Everything works pretty well except for the brakes... running the DC2R brakes all around with the 1" M/C booster and 4040 prop valve., staggered pad compound, even an adjustable proportioning valve, and it is still having rear lock up issues. I have wider tires up front than the rear which doesnt help this situation but I still want to make this work. So gotta start looking at bigger front brakes to forcibly move the brake bias further upfront.
Start doing research... everything aftermarket is $$$$$$$$.
Spoon kit, 1600+ USD
ASR 11.75" kit 2200+ USD
Stoptech C43 kit 2300+ USD
Neomotorsport F401 kit 2100+ USD
K Sport starts around ~2000 USD
Wilwood Doesnt do 5X114 sadly =(
You get the point, s**t is expensive...
Honda builds all their stuff on a global architecture/ platform sharing on their models which means, Golden age Civic/Integra/CRV share a bunch of parts that may differ slightly but will bolt up to eachother...
Guess what? their newer stuff changed slightly but WILLL still bolt up if you know what's going on. For example DC2R knuckle, wheel bearings, wheel hubs are a glorified CRV components, with some minor differences.
So lets talk about the Civic brakes lineup, skipping 2001-2005 Civics/RSX because the caliper is trailing mounted where nearly every other Civic line is leading.
Starting with the RSX Honda moved to the smaller wheel hub flange when compared to the DC2R, RSX wheel hub diameter: 5.488" where the DC2R is 5.75". which means the RSX-S rotor will not fit over the DC2R wheel hub.
Surprise, if you machine down the DC2R wheel hub brake register size from 70.1mm to 68mm, BAMMM the Nissan rogue rotors sits in the center of the Genesis Brembo Calipers...
On this table, from left to right, 2000 Civic CX > 98+ DC2R > 9th Gen Si > TL-S Brembo > Genesis/Rogue Combo
Genesis Brembo with Nissan Rogue w 3rd row seat rotors on a modified DC2R wheel hub
These things are huge, 17" RPF1 inner barrel does not clear the caliper, so I started looking around at other wheels, Konig Dekagram and Hypergrams in some 17" sizes will clear these.
Scot at Konig was super helpful and confirmed fitment after I sent him the CAD files for these, but at time of looking for wheels, the specs that I wanted were sold out, so more looking
Ended up getting a pair of 720form GTF1 17x9, 5x114.3, +25, which were very close to clearing around the spokes... so I added a 10mm spacer and now everything is looking good!!!
The TSX rotors and calipers makes for an awesome budget brake setup.
My Element Loves the increased braking performance and the fact that it plays nicely with OEM alloy wheels
Hey! Great informations. I own the jdm 5x114 conversion on my 96dc2 trackcar. I m not willing to swap my 9.5 x 17" RPF1 for an other sets of wheel right now cause I own 6 of them. But I want to upgrade for bigger brake in front. The jdmitr hub diameter size and hub center bore is the main issue.
What about swapping a rsx or tsx hub on the jdm itr spindle? Straith swap? Would it be possible to swap the tsx rotors, calipers + caliper brackets to have an oem bbk? Anyone did it
They are the same bearing. You'll need an rsx-s hub, new bearing, ball joint, tsx caliper and rotor. Using the crv hub you will have a 70mm centerbore and you will not find a 300x28 Honda rotor.
