Default PD on the freeway?

So I'm curious if anyone knows for certain what happens if you are pulled over by city PD on the freeway? ****ing just got pulled over by Glendale PD on the 134, and I think it's bs, this is why we have highway patrol to patrol freeways...

yea I was gonna talk with a lawyer because he got me for speeding, stated that he had to go 100 mph to catch up to me... I find that to be bs, from the time I saw him to when he got behind me and lit me up was about 3 miles, no way my lil 2.0L turbo IL4 really was going to make him work hard with his v8... lol

from what i understand, a city cop can pull you over but needed to wait for CHP to come issue the ticket.

CHP also has I believe a 1-2 mile radius from a freeway in their jurisdiction. So if you're on the street you can get pulled over by CHP if you're near a highway.

How fast did he say you were travelling at? If you know your speed at the time, you can quickly calculate to see if he was BS'ing.

i hate that bs line "i had to go Xmph" to catch up to you"
no **** officer if i'm ahead of you you're going to have to go faster to cover the distance... if you didn't you'd be maintaining a constant distance...

well I'm curious as to if he had anything to record voice in his vehicle because if he did I'm ****ed... He put on the ticket I was doing 90, even if so, I'd like to do some math and calculate the distance of where he was when I passed him (entering the freeway) to where he finally lit me up. He was a real dick saying what do you think you're doing racing? I was like I wasn't racing sir. Have you ever been to jail? Do you want to go to jail?... Guy was a complete douche about the entire situation when I tried to explain to him that the car was riding my ***, he just so happened to be entering the freeway when I was pulling away from the idiot behind me, as he too was speeding... But I'm the one that gets ticketed for being tailgated? Next time I will brake check a mother****er instead, such bullshit.

well I guess third time is the charm I hope... I need to figure this one out, what happens if I were to plea guilty and request traffic school, I don't get a point on my license, but it does go against my driving record for insurance right?

traffic school voids the point penalty. Stop speeding.

If you just pay the ticket in the mail and accept the traffic school option, and complete traffic school, then nothing will show up on your record with the DMV, so insurance won't even know it.

If you go to court or contesting the ticket though, you won't get the traffic school option if you lose, and you get point on your record and increased insurance rate. At least that's how it was.

Were you speeding? Your word against his. Take the traffic school, if offered. He put you down for 90 mph. Pretty high. I have seen people lose traffic court trials and still request for traffic school at the end and get it. Its up to the court. Doesnt matter though, you still need to pay the fine plus traffic school fees, etc...

Yes, he can cite you. If the freeway runs through the city, then the city police have concurrent jurisdiction with the California Highway Patrol over freeways, highways, streets and roads within his jurisdiction. If they observe a violation of the law, they can pull you over and cite you.

If you didn't already go to court, I suggest you ask for an extension. Then show up the last day they give you, then plead Not Guilty. They will issue another court date, and extend that one too. Also, try to show up to court opposite of the time you got pulled over, example: if you got pulled over at night, you go early morning court. This should probably be a good 6months out already, when you show up to court a few things can happen:

1. Cop shows up, he doesn't remember you or what happened exactly. You ask for reduction + traffic school, explain that you weren't speeding it just looked that way, in the most polite way possible. Usually works.

2. Cop doesn't show up, you automatically win.
(If you went to court opposite of the time you got pulled over chances of him showing up is hella low, he doesn't wanna wake up all early for a court date then has work the right after.)

Good luck, hopefully you update us with what happens!
I recommend this to anybody who is trying to fight a ticket!

my problem is he was a dick and threatened to arrest me when asking me how fast I was going and in my worried about going to jail state I gave him a high number, so I'm worried that if the whole thing was recorded, I'm ****ed...

op, the city pd can pull you over as long as you're within their city limits or jurisdiction. the only difference between the pd and chp as far as pulling you over on the freeeway is that the chp jurisdiction ends at the state line as opposed to the city pd where it ends at the city limit. where i live, we dont have "city pd" we just have los angeles sherriff department, and they're jurisdiction is the entire los angeles county, which as far as i know, spans from lancaster all the way down to the valley, which is almost an hour drive on the freeway.
