Looking for auto painter
Lookin to get my ef hatch painted anyone have a good painter that is reliable and decent pricing and of course does a good job i'n the socal area lmk plz thanks h-t
^^^Agreed.
If your not looking to spend alot of money some macco shops have decent painters. Also, the 200$ paintjob isnt the only thing they offer. I'd prep/tape the car myself then bring it there.
Meet with the manager and discuss what you want to do. Also, I think they spray primarily single stage so maybe see if they got good paint or if you can buy your own and bring them it.
Most reputable bodyshops, atleast in my area, will charge thousands for paint. So maaco might be a good option. Or if you can find a painter to do it on the side you might be able to get it done cheap. If you werent 3000 miles away I'd do it. Good luck.

I'm not sure about all Maaco's, but the one in my neck of the woods does full base/clear 2 stage paint jobs. Here is the thing about Maaco, I have used them many times as I used to flip cars quite a bit. As noted from a previous post, I would do the following things if you go that route:
1: Take everything off the car you don't want painted or oversprayed. Moldings, door gaskets, headlights, trim pieces, lips, grills, spoilers etc. They will paint your front and rear lips, mirrors and grills off the car seperately for no extra charge (at least at the one I used)
2: do your own bodywork and prep. I have spent a lot of time wetsanding my surface, primering, filling, etc prior to drop off. I clean everything with the appropriate paint prep cleaners.
3: Mask out stuff yourself you don't want painted if you don't plan on taking it off. I have made the mistake of allowing them to mask off window trims... bad idea. When I have masked them, they have turned out better.
I have had Maaco do a Base/Clear in the following colors: Black and 2 diff civics I had done in OE silver (my old 89 EF hatch and my 2000 EK hatch) both turned out amazing as I had stripped everything off them prior to paint. Not hard to mess up.
One the other hand, I have had 1 really bad paint job done there.... the painter was horrible. This was the final and last time I will use them as the manager told me after I told him the car looked like shizzz! "we fired that guy, he was shady.." I'm like that does not fix my paint job. I had to take the mirrors and front bumper back to be repainted and then it came back fairly nice. I will post a pic of my worst Maaco paint job below. This was my EG coupe and it was a single stage OE Frost White. If you do metallics, you have to do the Base/Clear if you want it to look good.
If you pay the money, the Base/Clear at Maaco can be very nice... but you have to remember, that is not the $200 paint job... they charge more towards $500- $600 for that if they have to do no prep... If you want the $199 special... don't expect much....
That is my experience with them and my 2 cents! lol
