"Kathy Swanson of the state Office of Traffic Safety said unless Tilley was wearing the kind of protective gear professional motorcycle racers wear, he was courting death at 200 mph. "
I don't know what she thinks professional superbike racers wear (1/2" plate mail armor perhaps), but 200 mph into a traffic barrier... I don't know... I wouldn't bet on those odds.
Riders on the superbike circuit have tons of sandy runoff to slide and tumble on without meeting a wall or any sudden impact, even then, injuries can be very serious.. something tells me trees, lampposts and the backs of other cars aren't too forgiving....
There are enough times where I think about a barrier wall (a la Mosport) at 140mph on the track in the R to make me shudder... an "unprotected" motorcycle rider... yikes.
Not that I'm condoning anything of this nature... but I'd be surprised if the cops would put up much of a fight if they didn't stop, I mean they'd have enough trouble with 120mph chases, let alone 200mph....

Is that it? Are you kidding me? A 200 mph+ impact on a motorcycle is fast enough to dismantle your entire body. How many time have you been 200+ on a crotch rocket?

Only a handful of exotic sports cars can reach 200 mph "TYPE RRRRR", but many high-performance motorcycles can top 175 mph. With minor modifications, they can hit 200 mph. Tilley was riding a Honda 1000, Loney said...............Did he say honduh? vtack?
I still doubt he was going that fast because there is no real evidence of it. If he was radared/lazered at 205, that is one thing. But the cop was using a stop watch and doing math to figure out his speed. Math skills vary from people to people, so he could be wrong with his calculations. I do not think a speed based on a stop watch and math will hold up in court as well as say a radar speed.
Well and legally in order for his statement to count he has to have a witness with him in the plane, other wise it's worthless to say he was going 205. The pilot might as well say he was going 500 it makes no difference.
70 MPH is fast enough to cause body parts to fly. 200 MPH you would just liquify.
Your leather would really help in cleaning to accident scene. scoop you up with a shovel and pour you into the body bag. Its like a giant condom full of guts.
yea, and the general reaction time to hit start and stop on a handwatch would also greatly change his speed. He was prob goin like 185 but thats still fast as ****.

The method used has been used for years to bust speeders. There is only one formula that they use to determine speed. There are white lines painted on the highway (not sure of the distance between them), but the basic math formula is distance x time = speed

Are not most helicopters equipped with video cameras or do I watch too much helicoptor police chases? I would laugh my *** off if the cop made a calculation error and has to recant his statements. "He was actually only going 80, I forgot to carry the 1."

That would be pretty funny, but they actually use planes for their surveillance.

I have a couple State Patrol friends here in Seattle that get stuck on this particular detail every now and then. One to two police officers fly in a plane or chopper while several cruisers wait up the high way about a half to three quarts of a mile away. They then pick out cars that seem to be going faster than the flow of traffic then time how long it takes that driver to go from one painted white line to the next painted white line. The lines are 1/4 mile apart, here in Seattle but differ from state to state, which of coarse, the math equation would have to be changed.
It's accurate and holds up in court, but it is of coarse, not as accurate as radar or laser, obviously.
For the record: I got pulled over in California six years ago doing 120 in a 60. Fortunately the CHP was in a good mood and all I got was a ticket. I was young and stupid.
Though this guy only laid into it for a mile, which in respects to his speed, is not that far. They police and state are going to make an example out of this kid.

i have a video of a dude going 150+ and passes a state patrol car. he just got onto a different hwy and started smashin' some more. i highly doubt they caught him.
