lowering advice wanted
I want to lower my 96 about an inch-inch and a half. What kind of springs should I get first of all? And preferably not have to buy new shocks too unless you guys really recommend it for a smooth ride.
If you dont put new shocks on the car then the ride is going to suck... It will be bouncy on the highway. The Proline springs are nice for that little of a drop. Dont waste your money on "fakie" coilovers.. just get springs and some nice adjustable struts.
Tein is the best...more of a drop usually unless you want to spend some $ for the Flex or the "real" coilovers.

wrong...
eibach springs on stock shocks will be fine...i rode my pro kit on my civic for over a year and never experienced anything bouncy...

Come on, they're from JAPAN!!!
H&R sports are also a nice spring. Not very aggressive, though. And at least go with some Tokico HP (the blue shock). Especially if your car is over 90k. You can pick up a nice kit on ebay for cheap.

Well my personal opinion is that H&R Sport springs are junk.
Koni Sport shocks with Koni-specific Ground Controls with custom spring rates would probably outperform many entry-level "JDM" suspension setups, at a cheaper price even.

my personal opinion about H & R Sports are that they are pretty good and stiff on stock shocks. i ran them for about a year and now i have h & r sport with agx and im running 4/4 daily. *i know this causes them to wear out faster*

What is the deal with all this false info from idiots lately?
How is Tein the best. And the Flex aren't even that great. There are so many other companies that make coilovers just as good, if not better than Tein. Just do research on something for a mild drop.
Do you want the drop for looks only, or for performance too?
H&R sports suck IMO. I had them and my car was dropped well over 2 inches. They blew my stock shocks in about a week. And the rates were wayyy too soft.

if all you're looking for is a smooth ride and a 1.5" drop, get some eibach proline springs; they won't wear out your stock shocks and you get what you want.
if you want performance, look into the koni yellow/ground control sleeve combo. i've had it for 3 years now, with the spring rates in my sig, and had no problems (other than passengers sometimes complaining about the stiff ride, but that's due to the spring rates). the spring rates ground control specs out for this combo are softer and you won't have the passenger complaints i do if you go with GC's rates. (ground control allows you to request custom spring rates if you want to)
as for whether or not this combo is cheaper than tein crap, from my experience it is not. the koni yellows alone will be around $475, and the GC sleeves are a little more than $300.
there are cheaper adjustable shocks- from what i've read over the years, the kyb agx's seem to be the best of the shocks cheaper than koni, or at least have the most positive reviews among others (tokico blues being a close second to the agx's).
the car is 8 years old, so the stock shocks may need replacing... if not, i'd just go cheap and get the eibach prolines if you don't need an adjustable shock or coilover setup.
just my .02

That's sounding best from everyone right now for what I want, about the right drop, and a smooth ride, for cheap is all I really want. If it handles better that's great too but not as important. Is $200 a good price to pay for a pro-kit? (does pro-kit = proline? cause i can only find prokits or sportlines, not prolines?)

i actually just lowered my car about 3 hours ago.
I used Eibach springs (medium drop), and non adjustable struts ( struts are must for a smooth ride). I figured i would never actually take the time to adjust them so i saved myself the money. It rides like a dream and handles better than ever. Don't forget about tires though. I would reccomend the Toyo T-1s (215/40/17 on mine).

h&r race springs will dump the H3!! out of your car, make it ride like butt, and probably end up blowing your shocks
eibach pro-kit will lower your car close to an inch and a half and will ride close to stock with stock shocks, i had some for over two years, and they were great
eibach sportlines aren't too bad on stock shocks , i had this setup before and it sat better than the pro-kit and rode just as good in my opinion
teins springs are nice quality but dont ride as nice as the eibach sportlines imo
intrax dumped my car way lower in the front and rode like garbage
skunk2 coilovers on tokico blues were pretty d@mn good when i had those, i was completely satisfied with the ride
tokico lowering springs = same ride and height as the eibach pro-kit
suspension tecniques had a nice drop and nice ride but were kinda soft if i remember right
tanabe sustec pro type2's excellent ride, no compaints
tein ss - best ride so far, just wish they had the little flanges in the front for the brake lines to mount upto, and they couldnt even provide a ziptie
ive had 5 or 6 integras over the past 7 years and just about as many civics.... in case anyone was wondering how the h3!! ive had so many suspension combinations, i just thought id put them all up in case you come across any of these other brands, and i have some less than a month old tanabe sustec pro type2's for sale in the classifieds if your interested just lemme know, price is negotiable, i need them gone ASAP

what makes you think that?
whats the best?... the best is stuff we gear heads cant afford.. its all a personal preferance.
its goin to be a battle between JIC, OMNI, TEIN, GC, SKUNK2, BLAH BLAH BLAH..
so get the best of what you can afford. i can almost promise you that if your lookin for coilovers, the majority of people are goin to stay those brands

Skunk2 coilover springs are pretty stiff from what I understand, which means they will quickly wear out shocks if they're not up to the task. Stock shocks are definitely no good, and lower-end shocks like Tokico HP's or KYB GR-2's probably aren't good, either. I would say go with at least KYB AGX's, Tokico Illuminas or Koni Sports if you're going to use Skunk2 coilovers.

a buddy of mine paid a grip for some expensive aluminum bodied Zeal's and put them on his 93 civic si and they rode like complete garbage....i think they were meant for mostly flat road racing....they didnt even ride as nice as skunk2's on stock shocks!!!! so its not always about the brand.....like someone said before its all personal preference....i would almost recommend anything except Intrax or H&R race....ive never known anyone to have good luck with either of those two brands......

I never said they would ride good. Really expensive coilovers like that are made for racing. People just use them on the road uncomfortably, but they handle so bad ***, it's worth it.
