Default Q: Proper way of taking care of a cf hood

Don't flame did a search and all that people came up with is to paint it.. dont really want to paint the cf hood. So what kind of precautions/care steps can i take in order to keep it in pristine condition. Again i have oem hood also but that will go on during th winter time(highly doubt i'll drive the car during those times), but would like to use the cf hood in the summer. What can i do to keep the spoom cf hood minty mint thanks in advance..

You ever see that blue tape that people install over their lips at car shows when they are leaving? It's to protect it from chips. That's the only thing i can suggest. Or, just don't drive it at all and it will be in presine condition!

I think waxing it will be good enough, but like anything else the clear will fade. But when that happens just wet sand it and reclear it and it will bling for another five years.

I usually wax my hood with at least 5-6 coats of wax then a few coats of hand glaze to make sure it doesn't turn funny colors.

To be honest there's nothing you can do, unless you clear it with a non-water based clearcoat. All the carbon hoods sold in Cali use a water based clear. I've been down every route trying to keep the CF hood lookin good. Best thing to do is give it to a body shop to sand and clear again. I just had mine done this week. I'll post pics up later. Also, if the hood isn't completely faded or oxidized you can try to use a transparent paint protection. Go to my friends website, http://www.AutoSupershield.com. He's going to supershield my hood just to make sure this crap doesn't happen again! Don't try waxing, dont try sanding, it's all going to come back. You have to re-clearcoat it.

I'm sorry to say but the clear coat on the spoon hood REALLY sucks. I would HIGHLY recommend you spend the money to take it to a reputable paint shop to spray more clear on it.

Otherwise it will fade and look horrible.

3M makes a marine wax for boats and stuff. It helps to prevent and remove the oxidation and protect from UV light damage.

Try their automotive "3M Liquid Wax" for your paint as well - it works wonders.

When it rains make sure you don't let the water sit on it. Wipe it off before it dries up.

Should you just reaply the wax. Or wax for a while (everytime you wash?) and can you clay bar a cf hood?
