The Quest for ultimate power
Too many times I see people posting about their "quest for power". They seem to be confusing ¼ mile times with power.
People are going out looking for the magical tricks, the cheap, quick power gains just to get them over the top. A cheap header here, or a "power chip" there all in the hopes of going faster in a straight line.
1320 times are nice people, but don't get that confused with the power that you poses.
Ever since the First Prelude made its debut in late November of 78 with its 72 bhp engine it has been known for its great handling capabilities.
For over twenty-six years the prelude has been hailed as one of Honda's greatest handling street cars. Its high revving engine kept the power right where the driver needed it and it was never lacking.
The ability to go fast in a straight line in nice, sure it can even be considered fun, but there is more to a car then straight line "power".
No Honda has ever been developed from the factory with the intent of being fast on the straight aways. Not even the Integra Type R or the S2000.
These cars were purpose bread vehicles, designed for going fast at all times, not just in a straight line. If you stop and take a look at the cars around there are not many others in that class.
BMW has the same thought process as Honda does when it comes to handling. Make it go fast around a corner because that is where time will be made. The M3 is not the fastest car in the world. The E36 came from the factory with 240 bhp, only 20 more then our beloved Type-S. The M3 is world renown for its handling capabilities as well as always having the power on tap for when the driver wanted it.
Corey amazes us every year with his H2 (and upcoming H1) competitions. He goes against the best performing vehicles in his class and walks all over them time and again. The H2 champion isn't a civic, its not an Integra (well sometimes it is) its a 4th generation Prelude. And to be honest, its not even modified much. Nothing has been done to that car that any of us couldn't do with a little motivation. Once again proving its not the car that matters, its the will of the driver behind it.
So the next time that you think about getting that "power chip" or the cheap header that's just too good of a deal to be true, just stop. Go outside and look at your pride and joy. Get in and take her for a spin. Show me a civic that can hang with you in the corners as well as the straights, then compare the money in your wallet and see who comes out ahead in the end.

Had like a old *** Nova, strapped like 4 Solid rockets to the top of it and made it remote controlled. Followed it with a helocopter and it lost the damn chopper at like 150 mph. lol was awesome

Well put doug. Preludes suspension is in reality better then integras and Hatchbacks. No one really looked into racing preludes except the super JUN prelude which you can tell that car is maxed out.

this is all well and good, but unfortuneately, we live in a rice boy society today that only wants to know you 1320 time........
i always hated this myself, i myself and a road racer at heart, anyone who has ever riden with me in a car can attest to this. however, im one of those guys that has an ego, and i have to feel on top. this is a flaw, i do admit it. the problem is, when i auto-x, i cant go brag about how i ran a 38.325 second lap, b/c no one knows what the **** i am talking about. for that matter, 38.325 could be excelletn on one track, and anything less than 50 seconds be near impossible on another.
it takes skill to drive both. i myself cannot drag race for ****, ask anyone that has seen me on the track.... but try to keep up with me on the twisties, and i will sk00l you.
if you are worried about how cool you can be, or how impressive your car is, go for HP numbers and 1/4 mile times
i myself had a ~400hp Prelude that stuck to the road like bubble gum sticks to a sneaker
