my friend thought it was a good idea to run open header on his 96 acccord ex. It sounded awful but was kinda fun for a day. Anyhow of course the check engine light came on, but my question is now that we have the exhaust bolted back to the header, how do we shut off that light? The o2 sensors were not touched by the way.
have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery? if you have and that didn't work go to autozone and ask them to reset it with their diagnostic, if that doesn't work i don't know what to tell you, i hate that ******* light!
hold in the button that resets the trip meter thing that is in the gauge cluster turn the key to the on position while holding in and hold it until the light blinks then it should go off. That should be how you reset it if it comes back on something else is wrong.

that ******* light could save your engine by letting u know there is a problem so it can be fixed before it is too late...
dont hate the light, hate the cause of the light

You make a very valid point

wow, that's like a bunch of wrong information.
try pull the code, i bet it's because you didn't have the cat hook up(lower cat. effeciency blah blah..)
CEL is here for a purpose, no your car wouldn't blow up, some of you guys need to stop watching cartoon.
the best way to reset the ECU is not unplug the whole thing.
Pull the ecm/ecu fuse, or you could reset the ecu simply by pulling the negative end of the cable from the battery.
pressing on the trip meter switch will only reset the "main' reg." light, which have nothing to do with CEL.
