mobil 1 stops oil consumption?
I have been running pennzoil 20w-50 in my 98 itr for 10,000km always using 1 litre at least every two weeks, sometimes even more depending on track events. Recently I switched to mobil 1 15w-50 and i have not consumed any oil what so ever. I have actually beaten the car quite hard during this time and it stays the same. Is this a fluke or ?

some cars just react to differently to different oils. Everyone should test out different oils and find which one better suits them. When I switched to mobil 1 synthetic in my gsr i would go through 1-2 quarts every 3k
Lol..
This thread is funny cause I noticed the same thing. I tried this oil cause someone recomeneded it to me and as a side benafit I noticed my massive oil seal leak stopped..lol

i use the 15w-50 for my turbo civic, because it is rated for higher heat ranges and doesnt breakdown as fast. it says on the back "for turbo and supercharged, high performaqnce vehicles" so it must be okay.
honda mechaincs frowm upon it but honda says use 5w30 or whatever cause thats the oil designed to be used when the car is in the conditiotn they sell it to you, not after the conditions WE turn them into!!!!!
but yes i did burn and consume less oil with MOBILE 1

Mobil 1 is what is recommended for all Honda motors and it's what I use. Obviously not 15w-50, but maybe Honda knows something about Mobil 1 oil that we don't.
Or, it could just have a higher tolerance to heat and breakdown. Who knows?
I wonder if you would burn as much, or more oil if you were to use 10w-30 or 5w-30 Mobil 1?

One more thing I'd like to add is that the pennzoil used to heat up to 250f or more, and now the mobil hasn't seen over 210f. Is it possible that the mobil 1 is able to exchange the stored heat faster than dino oil?

Wow!!! I'm really dumb!

That seems almost impossible (Even with the friction difference
)
My first two guesses would be a different viscosity at temperature causing a different flow rate and different amounts of cooling..... or you're just measuring on different temperature days.

good topic..
my turbo gsr eats oil like crazy.. about a quart or more on 500 + mile trips. its not so bad in city driving though.. and it only happens when i'm on long distance trips..
i;m currently using 10w30, on my next change, i think i'm gonna go w/ 15w30 or 15w50..

this is directed at everyone who posted in this thread, who ran organic before switching, and is it those that ran organic that the leaks stopped in? i have been looking into things a little and it seems the amsoil synthetic has less detergents than any other synthetic, was thinking i would give it a shot
moble 1 is definitly a highly recomended oil besides the car manf. listed^ bmw and the newer vettes also recomend it. But if your not burning it now it may just be time I use mobile 1 and still go through a lil bit.
