Default type-r turbo

quick question for you turbo type-r's with no internal mods or ehad work, how much hp have you whipped out without destroying the engine? How much tourque? While having a turbo setup on your type-r can you still rev to the 8400 rpm redline without propblems? thanks.

although mine is not turbo, i can vouche and say that depending on the kit you go with, most companies will recommend running 7-8 psi on the stock block.

And yes, you can still rev it out, but with a new ECU to adjust the fuel curves for your FI, you might make the most power at a different RPM and revving it out would be over kill.

you can rev to 9k if you want on stock motor, but i don't really rev that high with increase powerband.. as far as hp goes, its best to keep within low 200's on stock motor to have it last for longer time, high 200's with forged internals and with stock sleeves and so on.. i still don't see people having over 50k boosted miles.. usually because of errors and wanting more boost. as far as hp/tq ratio, deduct about 25 (20-30%?) from hp and you get your torque.

as far as cyl head goes, you don't really need to modify for boost, at least for average turbo setup/powerband.

hp output per pound of boost can vary depending on turbo size, exhaust setup/size and few other things.. turbo setup A will make 220whp at 7psi while turbo setup B will make 280whp at 7psi

I call BS !!

turbo size is really what will determine overall power. You can make double digit power gains at the same boost w/ diff. turbos.

I am running JDM ITR pistons in a stock block/head GSR cams, my numbers are 275whp/185lbs @ 7psi.

That is with an SC61 turbo and 2.5 inch exhaust...

damn thats crazy 285hp at 7psi, you guys aren't making loads of tourque though, I know honda motors are not know for tourque but any of you have bored out the itr block to a 2.0? COudl you bore it out to a 2.2 even? FOr torque reasons? I know in dsms that when you step from the stock 2.0 to a 2.3 stroker or even a 2.4, its a world of differnce, especially on a big turbo like a 60-trim, fullboost can be noticed from any as to 500-1000 earlier compared to stock and provieds a shitload more of tourque. thanks.

I've talked to guys who ran 10 lbs no problem for years. I ran 7.5 lbs and ran into smoking issues after 8 months. There are so many variables. Condition of the engine, usage, quality of parts used, tune methods and quality, etc....

(see sig)

Edit, cj-motorsports did my install, Whip Factory did the Hondata tuning. I'd recommend them. (Batavia/West Chicago).

I know someone who made more power with ITR cams over GSR cams...if you have them laying around, you should consider throwing them back on.

Never tuned my R motor which is the reason it blew up. (Yes, i was one of those ******** who slapped on a turbo kit, and pray'd for good things. lol) Definitely would have made 300whp +. Now my car is slow.

Boo, you have .14 more horse than me, 295.46.

I got hella more torque than you though through most of the power band I'm above 200 ft-lb from 4000 to 7600 RPM.
