timing belt tensioner
i have a 87 integra i'm trying to get the timing belt to tighten up but i can't seem to get it.i took the tensioner off,i put it back on but i can't get it to put tension on the timing belt.any one got a solution to this
Has the spring gotten weak? Maybe you need a new spring.
The belt isn't supposed to be tight, like for example your alternator belt. You should just be able to twist the belt 90 degrees in it's long span on the exhaust side.
Loosen the tensioner bolt just enough for the pulley to slide. Turn the engine forward about 3 teeth; this lets all the slack go to the intake side where the tensioner takes it up. Hold the crank pulley like that, with some tension on the belt, while you tighten the tensioner bolt. Sometimes, if I let go of the crank pulley to tighten the bolt, the slack moves around & the belt ends up a bit loose.
