Default fan relay keeps going.....overheating

hey I have a 1995 LS with FAL dual fans , the ones that use stock connectors for a stock fit. with greddy turbo kit

recently about 2 months ago my fans stopped working and I started to overheat, then I swapped out the fan relay while troubleshooting and it fixed the problem.

yesterday I started to overheat again, leading me to believe that there is a short in the fan to relay wiring causing the relay to go cause its the week link.

I checked the fan wiring and clips they look ok, no bare wiring no melted connectors, and when I jumped the relay conector the fans went on, and stayed on even when the ignition was off.

any help? info? what is causing this, I had the FAL for about 8 month with no problems.

maybe you're pulling too much current through the relay?? Get a 30amp bosch relay

well this is a stock relay, i dont know the specs of it, its the one by the batt under the fuse box.

and the fans worked fine for a while.

i dont wanna use a bigger amperage because then the weak link will be something else if there is in fact a short it might damage the fans or something else.

the fal fans are designed to work with the stock wiring system.

anyone else have anymore info?

amperage would be the death of the relay

Upgrade the relay the next weak link would be the wires themselves

does anyone know the stock amperage?

I know according to the site FAL specs are 19.5 AMPs is that more then the stock draw?

also why did they work fine for 8 months and now i have these problems?

also since its a stock relay how would I upgrade it?

a bosche relay wont fit into the slot in the fuse box.

are they stock size upgraded relays? what amperage is the stock relay?

Once you're positive you've eliminated the possiblity of a short somewhere, get all your wiring back to stock and working.

You need to know how much current the two fans draw. once you've figured that out, I'd run the appropriate size wire to the battery - interupt it with relay which will get its signal from the factory relay. capiche?

It's not the most elegant way of doing it, but it'll keep you from melting stuff (if done right).

I was feeling artistic:

thanks dennis.

but the wiring is all stock, this is a bolt up kit for an integra, I tested the stock fans they draw 19 amp, and so do these FAL, 19.5 amps.

so its either a short inside the motor, which I dont know about, or something else.

I dont need/shouldnt have to rewire it.

thanks any more info appreciated from people who might have a similar problems
