Paint Fading under warranty?
Has anyone successfully gotten Acura to cover paint fading under warranty?
I was at the dealership this weekend and was talking to a salesperson about the possibility of a trade in and he basically ends up telling me my car paint looks horrible and that I obviously had my front bumper re-painted due to an accident.
Well, I was pretty angry, considering I have never had the front bumper replaced or re-painted at all (now the rear bumper and front drivers side fender is a different story). He also said that it would drop my trade-in price by $3000!
So the car is still under warranty, and I am wondering if I should go to the service people and tell them their salesperson said the front bumper looks like crap and to fix it; or give me $3000.

If you merely have some oxidation issues go find some Meguiar's products. I used Meguiar's paint cleaner on my hood and it took the oxidation right out. Make sure you use some other products on-top of that though
A good cleaner wax will work wonders on old paint.
As far as the salesperson, they will **** you any way they can. I considered trading in my old car once. Went to a dealership that had a car I was interested in to talk to a salesperson. They told me that my car was in great shape, and runs & drives great, but they could only give me $1,000 for it. Mind you I bought the car 2 years prior for $7,500, and the car was locked and alarmed -- they were never even inside it!
Bottom line -- don't believe a word a car salesperson tells you.

did you wash and wax it regularly?
use any harsh abrasives on it?
the Acura milano red usually fade, but I've seen some very well maintained cars keep their luster just fine.

I used ot take great care of it, but now that I am in an apartment I usually just go to a car wash to clean it up.
Previously I used the following combination in order:
1.) Wash with car soap (usually Meguiars, sp?)
2.) Meguiars (sp?) show car glaze, let sit for 30 min, then hand buff off
3.) Klasse All-in-one wax
4.) Klasse Sealant Glaze
Once I get my house (May) I plan to do this all again, but right now in an apartment it isn't easy to do this.

I say this is the problem, Give it a really good cleaning, clay, body scrub, polish, cleaner wax, ScratchX, and then a double coat of the best wax you can find.
I bet that will put a shine on your car like never before .

Chris,
There's a question you haven't answered: Do you think your paint is fading?
Keep in mind that a light color like yellow is never going to have the same depth and gloss to the finish as a dark color. But it should still be shiny when it reflects light.

my 2 cents toward the dealership sell it privatly
at all costs the dealership has to give you less so they can mark it up. a clean lo milage R worth $20 to $22 they would give you mabey $16 or $17

Yes, this is true, a good point. I think it is faded slightly due to paint on plastic vs. metal. Seems the plastic parts fade slightly.
And I agree on the selling privately; dealers are cheap SOBs.

Guys, paint doesn't "fade" .. maybe in the 1950's, but there is something called a clearcoat on paint that is meant to protect it.
If you go to car washes or use a sponge or whatever, that puts little scratches in the clearcoat turning it hazy or completely rubbing it off down to paint.
Hence using a buffing compound to return it to a "clear"coat

Thats true. I asked a body shop about that.. they said its the flex additive that causes premature fading.

Yep, I heard this on my 93 RS back in the day. The dealer knows that and wont pay you a good amount because they see a chance to make much more money on a used R than a brand new car.

I had both bumpers repainted under warantee.
The paint NEVER MATCHED.
I have yet to see a yellow type R that had bumpers that even remotely matched, brand new off the show room floor. Mine has sat in a garage for 4 years, and I work nights so it almost never sees the sun.
If you look where the plate goes in the back, the paint is green. Where it says Integra, its also green where they didnt get enough paint on.
Yellow paint over a black plastic bumper is going to be impossible to match.
You can look at a $50,000 vette, and their bumpers wont match either.
