Default tapping noises?? hydraulic lift?

i have a tapping noise coming from my engine and i have heard that it is because of the hydraulic lift and the valves need adjusting...i just wanted to know how much it would cost me to do it? or if i am wrong, what could be the issue?

it is a consistent tapping coming from the engine. my sister also has this problem on her car. The engine was rebuilt not too long ago when my block was sleeved so, i dont know why the hydraulic lift would get messed up so soon. thanks.

most likely worn LMA.s Lost Motion Assemblies. these rocker lifters that in the VTEC h22amotors is directly below thecentre VTEC rocker uder the camshaft.

First though you should have your valve lash adjusted to see wether it was that but if its adjusted then its still ticking loud then most likely LMAs.

Make sure your not confusing the sound with the injector fast clicks (no very loud though).

Also if you could get a sound recording up then we could help you alot more.

Maybe when you had the motor re-assembled they didn't torque the rod bolts up and that would cause rod knock which would a loud tappig noise, but sounds more like a 'clattering' sound.

many possibilites, do valve lash first then get back to HT.

all honda engines have a slight tapping, but if you havent gotten your valves adjsuted within the last 20k miles, then its worth getting them adusted and see if thats helps a bit.

forgot i had to add i had a h23..if that makes a difference..

its not really a clacking sound. its just a tap tap tap tap tap. im starting to think that it might just be honda engines..this is in my car and my sisters car...

let me know what you think now that ive told you about my h23. thanks.

The H23 is notorious for having a noisy valvetrain. Mine clicks and taps regularly, even though I know the valves are adjusted properly. Have it checked out just to make sure, but I'm pretty much certain your engine is fine.

its is not normal for the valves to be tapping you need to adjust them

The valves will tap whether you need to adjust them or not... This is why it is critical you keep a tight maintanance schedule and adjust your valves at the proper intervals.
