is it possible to put a 6speed tranny on a h22 or has anyone seen this done before?

probably not. you'd be better off putting in a K-series to get a 6 speed.

The only FWD honda with a 6spd is the k motor, but the tranny is on the wrong side of the engine bay. It would most likely be possible to make an adapter plate to mate it to the engine, but the tranny would be upside down to go on the passenger side of the car and simply cant work. RWD h22 with s2000 trans would be pretty cool.

Even if you could find a 6spd from another make, it might not be geared right for the h22 anyways. You should check out the b series adapter plate being sold by my buddy on here.

The Prelude should've been made with a 6-speed. I don't like having my engine turn at 4K RPM when I'm cruising at 80 MPH.

The fuel economy doesn't seem to suffer much, though.

I'm also interested in this my prelude seems like it has more room for another gear..I thought it was just me, but from reading some of the above posts I guess not, mine is an h23 though.

^ what he said. I mean, it's Honda though, I'm used to it, and the 4th gen is a lot better at sound dampening than my old 2nd gen, which spun at about the same engine/actual speeds, but was a helluva lot louder, like running with no cat or anything after it.

I was surprised that some place actually had a whole "performance" transmission available for the h22:

thats because its an NA 4cyl with only 200hp

Honda engineers arent stupid, if it was more high strung ex: s2k, it would have recieved a 6speed

There is nothing wrong with the Prelude's 5speed

Theres ALOT more than just making an adaptor plate, i talked to my buddy who put the b16 tranny on his h22 and there is so much that goes into the design of the plate.

Now I KNOW you didn't mean that it has unsubstantial output for a N/A 4-cyl, 'cause I can't think of many other N/A 4 cylinder engines that have same or better output

i agree the h22 tranny feels like it needs anothere gear. i bet u can make the k tranny fit by modifying the housing ect. ive seen supras with grandnational tranny so it could work its just that not all of us have the time and money to experiment.

dont forget that the k-series are mounted opposite of the h22, so the transmission would spin the wrong way unless you changed the direction in which the motor rotates(a few mods) and then you have to mount it up that way unless you take apart the tranny and delete or add another gear to reverse the direction of the differential

Wow thats crazy. I never knew somone has put a b16 tranny on a h22. Hows the gearing. I kinda like the 5th gear on the highway. I dont even have to downshift to pass cars quickly.

Dont worry people; give it 2 or 3 years and there'll be enough smashed up S2ks/Civic-R's engines to go around. Then the nest best thing will be converting 4G Preludes to RWD with K-series. ..and the cost of the K will have dropped by then!

I remember seeing an article a couple years ago about a built Honda Accord in Europe with the H22A. It had a 6 Speed Transmission built by XTRAC.

engine spins the other way. you'll have 1 forward gear and 6 reverse gears.

They do have sequential 6spds that cost 10g's custom built. If you really wanted a 6spd on a Prelude, I am sure you can pay out for someone to build you one.

engine spins the other way, correct, but the engine is also mounted the opposite way, meaning, you would still have 6 forward gears and one reverser gear..... just like your supposed to

V6s are all J series (well, the newer ones anyways, i think the old legends were like C series), J32 for the 3.2, J35 for the 3.5 in the oddysey/pilot/mdx, J30 for the Accord

definately, the reason it spins at 4k when you are cruisin @ 80 so you have more kick when you floor it in fifth. I noticed that when i bought my H23 lude. A hell of a lot more fun than the old civic
