Major HoOd Clearance Problems!!!
well, i wrecked my 93 civic coupe last summer so i went and bought a 91 crx si to make my project car. i didnt want to buy hasport mounts for my 98 gsr swap so that i wouldnt get bad axle angles so i decide to make my own.
both the front and rear mounts are solid, adjustable mounts. the 2 side ones are simi factory. well the problem with making custom mounts to get a perfect axle angle is that when you do so you end up with your engine sticking out the hood!! (pacman style).
this is going to be a street car so i need some idea as to what i should do. the valve cover, and distributer both stick out the hood exactly 2 inches! please any suggestions will be great. as soon as i find my digital camera i will post more pics, also pics at my axle angle.
yes i know these pictures are a little dark and as soon as i find my digital camera i will post more, these pictures are 2 days old. i just finished up all my mounts now.
ps: i didnt want to buy the hasport mount kit because of crappy axle angle, and with running a near perfect straight axle the stock ones can usually handle close to 500whp full throttle launches.. so i saw it as a way to save money and be unique.

if anyone knows where to get a 88-91 crx hood like the one durst runs that would be awsome, or if anyone knows where i could pick up just a cowl hood scoop about the same size as theirs,i have considered making my own but steel would be to dam heavy and i am no good at fiberglass yet.
also yes that is a godzilla intercooler and no it is not finished yet. when the car is done and running i will post more pics of it. thanks -James

if the gude hood wasnt quite so "ricey" i would get it. i just hate how it is all smooth and doesnt follow the crx's lines at all.
what makes this bad? the fact that i got a near perfect axle angle and therefore wont have to spend big bucks on race axles? the fact that you dont have it? or just the fact that it is the exact same design as Lesie Durst? also what is wrong with doing something different? what is so much uglier bout his compared to say pacman's (other than this is b seriers not k)?

ok here are a couple more pictures, no the engine isnt mounted crooked but the hood is lol so that kinda makes things look weird at some places.
no my bumper isnt hooked up it is just setting on the ground infront of the car that is why there is a big gap and it isnt centered over the intercooler.

i do but really dont want people to see what all is in their, in about 3-4 months this car will be a daily driven pro-am car. my goal is mid to high 10s with stock engine, with my civic ex 93 coupe i was running last year i was running high 11's low 12's with only 8.5 psi of boost on a stock long block b18c1 (although the car was fully gutted, and had many other mods) i wasnt in pro am last year and the car only lasted 3 months before eating a light pole.
so basicly no engines shots
ok but if its gonna be a track car why should you be worried unless im missing something then sorry. but if anyone says something just simply reply...."function over fashion"

i said it is going to be daily driven pro am car. not all out race car. i dont want to park the car at wallmart and have somebody see what i got and feel the need to stick something in my engine or just take the engine. when i get the car fully running i will be sure to do a write up for all yall guys on honda-tech. now, does anybody know where i could buy a fiberglass cowl hood scoop about the size of leslie durst's?
There are hundreds of people on here running hasport mounts, with no hood clearance issues or axle problems. Why would you want your motor sticking out of your hood that far. the only way your going to beable to fix that is a scoop of some kind, and you dont want to be ricey????
adviously those people who dont have axle problems arnt using stock axles with 350++ hp and full throttle launch on slicks.... 2ndly i said a hood scoop like leslie dursts not some gude crud, now i guess by your statement you made you think that leslie durst's hood scoop is rice....
i dont want to get in any pointless internet fight here, so if you dont know anything about where i can get a nice cowl hood scoop like durst's or positive comments please dont say anything at all. the only reason i made this post was to try and find a hood/ one piece front end/ cowl hood scoop so that my engine wont be out and visible.
If you fabbed mounts you should be able to figure out how to lay fiberglass and just make your own hood or at least a fiberglass piece that bolts over the motor sticking out of your hood.
Seriously though... why don't you just buy some HASport mounts or something similar? Why add more potential issues to your car when you are already going to have plenty if youre going to try to run 10s...
Just my .02c...

ok, just a thought on this, actually a couple of thoughts. first, you cut the hood a little close to the motor, didn't you? perhaps there is more room than what i can see from those pics. but, what happens when you actually run the motor, and do the launches at the drag track? i don't know about you, but all the motors i have seen move a little bit when you start moving, especially when you try to launch it. just a thought, you may want to make that hole bigger. and second, won't that make the hood a little unsturdy with a big hole in the middle? perhaps i'm wrong on that one too, but is that hood going to just flex a lot at higher speeds? and if it flexes a lot at higher speeds, then fiberglass is just going to break, right? i'm not flaming or anything, just wondering about that, and perhaps something you should look into before spending to much time and spending money on something that is going to break if you put it on there. anyway, good luck with it.

Good point. He must have lots of time on his hands. Maybe the fabrication forum is a better idea...

Let me know when the write-up is ready. I'd really like to ruin my car like you did.
It's a good thing you saved money on axles, you'll need that cash so you can buy a fugly hood to hide that abortion.

ok, i just found a hood that will work, i am going to have a custom cowl made up of fiberglass locally, he said he can do it where it looks almost identical to leslie's which is awesome. thanks for all comments even the negative ones. it is always good to see other peoples opinions on originality.
it would be so much easier to just get the beefier axles. your concept of lining up the axles to save money on axles is retarded. your solving a problem by creating a problem. and in the end your quest to be unique makes no sense either. cause in the end your car will perform the same way as the guy who was like "everyone else" and just bought stronger axles, and would have probably saved more money too. and guess what? his car will look better, your worried about your car looking ricey, how do you hink its gonna look with a 2" scoop sticking off the hood
