I'm just trying to gauge what kind of theft protection people need to have to keep their cars safe from 90% of car thieves.
i had a viper alarm on my gsr...they pulled the latch to the hood, cut the siren wire, banana-peeled the windows, popped the ignition and drove off for a couple hours. found the next day by the po-pos with radio, shift ****, and the $10 bike i just bought my son.
it's also true about how thieves work, they do return to try to take it again. the second time, i pulled a couple stuff and they attempted to push it down the lane, but left it with the hazards on by a speed bump. so be careful everyone.

I think we will see a trend among stolen alarm equipped vehicles. There will most likely be two basic issues; no pin switch on the hood and no backup battery for the alarm system.

Well, first of all, no auto security system, Viper or not, will completely eliminate the possiblity of a thief stealing your vehicle. Nonetheless, a well installed alarm system is definately a good and worthwhile layer of security, especially when equipped with battery backups for the alarm brain and siren. You might even throw in a hood lock. Here are a couple of links I've found on Google showing these items...

You can find these items much cheaper on eBay.

I personally will get a professional authorzied dealer to install the alarm when it's complicated like that or it could be too sensitive or not sensitive enough etc. Many people have told me to get it installed by a pro is there any validity to this?
My 2000 civic si was broken into however, the thief got off with a book of cds and just the detachable head unit face thank God.. My car has an alarm with the two-way pager. Its also was clubbed.. Does any turn their sterring wheel and club their car anymore? If not you definently should consider it.

I'm sure you are well aware that the Club can easily be defeated by cutting the steering wheel. I use my Club along with something called the Shield. It is a pie-shaped metal device that covers the steering wheel and is held in place by the Club. The Shield makes it alot harder for a thief to saw through the steering wheel. Unfortunately, it is relatively hard to find and may even have been discontinued.
A tip when using the Club is to mount it with the lock facing the dash. This makes it harder to pick the lock. Also, mounting the Club backwards in conjuction with a Shield will prevent its breakage by someone using a "Club-buster" type device.
