Default alternator



my car has been idling really low and car has been rather quiet lately. how can i tell if my alternator is going dead or dead?

easeist way to tell if its good or bad, is stick a voltmeter onto the battery, and with the car running, if the output voltage is less than 13volts, you may have problems

Just take into most auto stores offering free checks, they will do alternator, battery and diagnose most electrical faults for free.

Yep, pull it and take it to a Napa, Pep Boys, etc. and they'll test it for free.

I tried to take mine in to Advance, they said it was bad, then they checked their notes on the alternator.

There is a problem with checking an alternator on an H22A, it has some form of load circuitry in it that makes it hard to test on the bench, they told me to put it back on the car and bring it in... so I will have to wait a week or so.... cause my H22A is still sitting on the palatte... :0)

For sure best checked on car anyway, just drive the whole job lot straight in there.

my motor is still sitting on the floor, i am waiting for my cam gears and valve cover to put it in. Then i will take it in to Advance Auto Parts.
