I'm in the process of putting my Z6 head on my ZC block. I'll be using a d16y8 2 layer gasket but which car did it come off of? Or is the "2 Layer" a modified d16y8 head gasket??? and would it be ok to get the headgasket from Autozone/checker/advance??? oh and does anyone know the part number? thanks!!!

 

I believe the double layer is a modified y8 gasket.

 

its a modified stock y8 head gasket and its off the 96 -98 civic ex.

 

so i'd have to buy a 96-98 civic ex headgasket and take out the middle layer huh? how would i go about removing the middle layer? and would it be ok if i bought one from autozone, or would an OEM honda one be ideal for this modification? thanks!

 

theres little metal tabs that hold the layers together. all you do is bend em back and take out the middle layer and then put it back together. I'm sure theres pics of it on here, just search. i dunno if the autozone or honda brand are any different, maybe someone else knows.

 

just get the honda one...they arent that expensive. mine was around $25 online, so at the dealer it would probably be about $40 or so. its worth the extra few bucks to get something that is proven not to be a peice of crap.

Yeah, I'd definitely go OEM for a headgasket. The Y8 is actually in the 96-00 EXs.
