Type R Vs Volkswagon Hatchback VR6? Why I love my R!
This story is why I love my R

Well last night I was at an intersection turning left onto the highway and I was behind what looked like a VR6 without badges and had an exhaust so I didn't think much of it. Well I am right behind him and we are turning onto an on ramp to merge onto the highway and he is going a little slow for me so just before we get to the end of the ramp, I drop it into 2nd and take off around him. All of a sudden he gives chase. I look in my rear view and see him about 2 car lengths behind me and he wasn't gaining but neither was I. We took it up to 125 and I slowed down because we were coming up to traffic. He slowed down too and stayed behind me. Well after a little while I gun it again and so does he but with the same result. He is about 2 car lengths behind me and neither of us gain any ground. Well I slow it down again and this time he gets right beside me. I can hear him reving at me and we are doing about 80mph. Well I said why not. I drop it again and we both take off. When he shifts it sounded like he had a turbo but I am not sure. after about 100 he slowly starts to pull on me and I am like hmm. Well, we shut it down again and I pull up beside him and give him a thumbs up. He gives me a wave/thumbs up and we go our seperate ways. Well after all that I just smile!! because I am thinking. I LOVE MY CAR!! I am sitting here racing a car that some guy has spent $$ on to get his car that fast and from the sound and pricing, a turbo kit is not cheap and I am sitting here in my stock R giving this guy a run for his money. Not to mention that this car is ment for autocross and road course racing and not all out straight line racing. It made me realize even more how well honda built this engine. The money people spend just to get their cars up to par with a stock Type R integra is a true testiment to the beauty of the R! It was a fun race

A GTI in a straight line is not much slower than an ITR, I doubt he had many mods at all, with I/H/E he would be giving you a run for your money..............
We have LOTS of VR6 here in Austria and all I can say is, the ton of tourqe pulls realy hard. IT is a fast car and with a few mods as fast as the ITR. We are talking of 2.8 litre displacement
I think this car has about 170hp, correct?

Well, I guess from where I am looking...Hondas *** Looks pretty good!
i dont know bro , i havent seen to many fast vw's, maybe vr6 with turbo , if its tuned right.
but i havent seen any turboed vw's yet to make me think twice. id stillrun em . , but thats my r and not his. might be a little different story.

I beat a lightly modded VR6 Jetta after a autocross one day, both had perfect starts but by the top of second I had about a 1/2 a car length very close! Then We were pulled over by the police who decloaked out of nowhere! My buddies GTI 1.8T beats me though, with light mods he runs 14.3's!
My guess is that this guy was racing a 1.8t gti rather than a vr6. Besides the badges that are on the car there isn't too many other ways to tell what it is from the outside. He probably did hear a turbo but I doubt it was a vr6 turbo. Any 1.8t with mild work will put them in the 180 hp range, perfect competition for the type R. Atleast he gave you the
this guy i know owns a vr6, hes in love with the car, thinks his **** dont stink cause he owns one..all stock by the way...i personally, dont really like the vr6...then again it might jus be cause i dont like this guy, who knows. he thinks the seats in a type R go for 6 GRAND a piece....this guy is a tard

1.8 GTI turbo
downpipe
exhaust
drag radials = 13.7's, 13.8's@100mph
I was racing one at a test and tune about a month ago. That's all he had! Oh by the way, he never beat me. Ha ha

Those GTI 1.8T's pull sick amounts of torque with a chip... like 210hp and 250ft/lb ....wowww..i like the new Vdubs, in less than a month the new 24V GTI VR6 is out, 6spd tranny and some other goodies too in that bad boy.
I thought VR6´s were 200hp+ ?? There are at least 2 on the streets of Iceland and I´m not gona **** with them
but we got a lot of 1.8 GTI (150hp) and if chipped they can go pretty fast...

My previous car was a 97 GTI VR6 Driver's Edition and I have to say it was every bit as fast on an all out drag as my ITR (middle - upper 14's). The Type R gives up a little on the launch and through first and part of second, but makes up ground on the top of second and third. The VR6 had monster torque even for only have 172hp and any launch over 1800 rpms incinerated the front tires. Great engine and so much usable torque (which I miss), but try to turn or brake in it and watch out. Not nearly as impressive as the R there.
Modded however, the GTI just can't add hp like the R, hence any lightly modded R will walk away from a GTI.

if you say so , like i said i havent seen any that have impressed me .
lightly modded vr6's are no match...i raced one with an exhaust and probably an intake (can't tell for sure) and i raped it by 2.5 car lengths after second. My car is stock. 170 for such a heavy car is not that much and the tourque doesn't help that much in racing.
Maybe you were racing a 1.8T that was highly modified!

THe MkIII VR6's are much faster than the current MkIV's. The weighed about 150lbs less and had much more favorable gearing. I consistently ran 6.3 - 6.6 0-60 runs on a stock GTI (sans a Garret Chip and minor airbox mods).
I agree the 1.8T is the hottest GTI, but the mkIII VR6's can give you fits if you're R is stock.
Also note, the heat soak on a VR6 is not a problem like it is on a TypeR. In fact, my GTI ran best when piping hot (very odd, but verified by the Gtech). Something else to keep in mind....

Please don't glorify street racing. It sucks
Please drive safely this holiday. It only takes 1/2 a second to ruin your life.

I rode in a GTI VR6 at an autox. He had a cat back exhaust and coilover suspension. Mad torque compared to my ITR and handled awsome too. He was definately a good driver and I was quite impressed how he tore through the course.
My friend has a 2000 GTI VR6. I dont know how you could say those cars are slow. He has neuspeed exhaust and a p-flow intake. My R is stock, and he stays just with me, at about 90 I start pulling on him. So dont bash on that car, it is a quick torquey little thing.
guys,please !!!
I am living in the state VW is from an I know what I`m talking of. I never destroyed a stock-VR6. I beat him, yes. But only abot 1 car length....
A friend of mine has a turboed Golf VR6, the famous "Rothe-Golf". 360hp to the wheels, destroying a Porsche 911...
I drove with him last week.... He`s in trouble to manage this power. Wheel spin at 120km/h !
And I had my video camera with me as he was about to loose (!) against a turboed calibra at 280km/h .. I know, it`s hard to believe, but it`s a fact.
Beware of the german turboed cars. The ITR can`t mess up with them. Perfect weight, perfect ratio, perfect power band, perfect air resistance...I hate them.
