I'm pretty sure the factory wires from the battery to starter and battery to fuse box are 4 ga... not sure about the ground wire, though.
I dunno, spending the money on this smaller yellow top seems like kind of a waste for only 500 CCA's. If I needed a deep cycle battery and were going to spend the money on a yellow top, I would probably buy a regular one which have something like 800-900 CCA's and mount it in the back, and run a 0-ga. wire up to the front.

ive got 25 ft of 4 gauge in my car right now.
stock wires are not 4 gauge.
too thick to be 8 gauge.
gotta be somewhere inbetween 4 and 8......

I recently had my yellow top fail on me. I had one week left on the warranty. When I brought it in for an exchange, the meter read 8 volts. The Optima has 6 2 volt cells, and apparently the metal strap on top that connects them all had broken away from 2 cells. The point of all this incoherent rambling is this; when they put the new one on the meter, it actually registered 620 CCA.
I bought the OEM size one because I don't have any place in my hatch to put the bigger one...

It's an old pic, things are wire-tied and much neater now.

To each their own, but I wish folks would stop hating on other folks for up grading their Teg's. It's not like it's rice to up grade your OEM batttery with a Optima.
If you've up graded your stereo, have an alarm that you keep armed or let your car sit for weeks at time. Then a regular battery won't do.
I've had the same battery (51-R) in my car for just about a year now. I'm one of those people who drive two cars (04 WRX) and my Teg some times doesn't get driven from two to four weeks at a time.
In that time, my car alarm is always on. I've never had any issues with cold starts after my Teg been sitting around for weeks at a time. There are other people here that may find the Optima battery works for them and other that don't.
But all and all, I'd rather spend a little more on my Teg for piece mind. Just like some folks use HAMP oil filters and synthetic oil and turn around and change out the oil at 3000 miles rather then the 5000 to 7500 mile recommendation.
Like I said, to each their own, so just stop hating. It's not like we're ricing out our Teg's. In my own humble opinion, the Optima 51-R is a very good investment...
Peace
TQ

i have the same battery in my car..it weights the same as the oem battery..the only thing i noticed is that the negative terminal post is kinda skinny and the terminal doesnt clamp on tight..and ya its really only useful if you have accessories in your car the put an extreme load on your battery, ie stereo
btw its 114 shipped from tna-sports http://tna-sports.com/index.cf...id=30 thats were i got mine

I barely have a stereo, but you can't beat the reliability

Yea I picked up a red top optima battery for my g2. got a sweet deal on it, so it came to the price of a normal replacement battery. Looks solid and preforms just as well.
