Default Suspension parts...

I own a 94 Civic Ex. Ive been noticing that my suspension is really loose and unstable so I figured that my struts were going. I went to Pepboys to see how much it would cost to replace them and they quoted me at $650. Is this normally how much it should cost to for the OEM replacement and installation? This is my first car so I dont know how much it cost.

i searched but could not find...

does my car NEED struts or can I replace the strut with a shock? I understand that the difference between the two is that strut is a load bearing member while a shock is not, but I read on one thread that on a 88 crx you can replace the shock with a strut so I was just wondering if I can do the same.

have you tried looking at spark racing, import parts, something like that... cuase shocks can run you like 300ish, just get some nice oem ones.. and if your not big into aftermarket.. well your in the wrong spot

struts aren't the same as shocks but people tend to use them as the same thing.

you do know you could get something like KYB GR2's for 300 to 400 bucks, and install them your self.

while your at it you could even add some eibach sport lines or something along those lines you could do it for well under 500 bucks and you would have a decent ride

you car doesn't HAVE struts, it has shocks or dampers

per KYB: http://www.kyb.com/support/faq.php

Q. What is the difference between shock absorbers and struts?

A:Struts and shocks are very similar in function, but very different in design. The job of both is to control excessive spring motion; however, struts are also a structural component of the suspension as they can take the place of two or three conventional suspension components.

whatever you buy made for your car will be a strut. It shouldn't matter the name, only that it serves the purpose. Try ebay for some kyb gr2's if you just want a nice stock replacement, or even if you want just a small drop. It really isn't hard to do yourself, if you want to save some cash. It was the first thing i really learned how to do on my car. Hope this helps
