Default Steering wheel wobble

my steering wheel rocks back and forth about 1/2" when im going slow. When im moving faster it doesnt move as far, but still has a slight wobble back and forth.

I searched, some1 said it might be his axles but didnt continue.

anyone have any input. I had the car on a hoist 4 weeks ago and everything was solid. problem has occured for the last 2 years .

rocks back and forth, as in, rocks left to right like its turning?

If so, mine does a similar thing.. Just replaced a bad wheel bearing and it still does it.

bump for some info.

When the car was on the lift, you looked where the steering knuckle goes into the rack right?

a 1/2 "wobble" to me does not sound as a problem at all. I say it is normal.

i dont think it's normal for my steering wheel to rock left to right or wobble while driving straight and only moving like 10mph...

maybe I should have worded my 1st post better, sorry.. but.. thats the problem.

You said it doesnt move as far at high speeds, but does it wobble faster? Is the wobble dependent on how fast you're going?

it just be that your wheels are nto balanced...if you did/do get them balanced take to a porfessional place like sears or mieneke where electronic balancing is done..tis' not vey expensive.
if you notice that the wheel wobbles radically at a certain speed that that is usually a good indication of an imbalance

alignment? wheel balance? (nevermind you said no) start with those then check tie rods (inner/outer), then steering rack...i got a remmaned one with lifetime at autozone for $160 and it made my steering MUCH smoother/tighter...

Ball joints/wheel bearings as well. I've been having problems like this and the only way i've been fixing them is just by replacing things.

I get a solid BAM back and forth about 1/2" just like you are taking about. At slow speeds (under 10mph) it's SUPER evident. My complete poly bushing set up front probably isn't helping at all. I have all new ball joints as well. My wheel bearings are in good hape. My steering wheel completely jerks to the left and then back to the right. The car remains going straight. It feels like I have a big worn spot on the tire... very weird.

I did a lot of work to it before and didn't have this problem. The latest things I did seems to have created the problem - new engine, tranny and lowered a little more. My guess is that it has to be with the car being too lowered. My secondary guess is that my power steering belt may be slipping. Not sure what the problem is yet. I need new tires for the new wheels before I lift it back up and I need a new p/s pulley before I try fixing that.

Is your car lowered?

Sounds like a bad outer cv joint, I had the same problem a few months back. Replaced my axle with a good reman and the problem was solved.

Good luck

Hmmm... might have been your problem and might be his too, but it's not mine.
I have 2 new axles and they worked fine before the changes.

Anybody run into this issue from lowering too much???
