look a couple inches under the valve cover, on the front face of the block, there is a 2" stamp that has a number like d16y8, thats your engine. Look for that, then use the search button.

and it does not say vtec on the valvecover, but if its an ex you have vtec
only some sohc 94 ex's have vtec on the valvecover

to figure it out if you dont know about codes and **** just pop the hood and look to the right of the head and look on the side if it has two cam gears its dohc and if it has one its sohc or just look at it if it looks wider than usual than its dohc

thats not true. example: d16y7
the easiest way to tell if an engine has vtec just by looking at it, is to look for the vtec solenoid (sp?). it is located just behind the valve cover all the way to the left (on your d16y8. its in a slightly different spot on the dohcs)

92-93 SOHC VTEC engines did not say VTEC on the valvecover.
94-95 SOHC VTEC engines did say VTEC on them.
96-00 SOHC VTEC engines did not say VTEc on them.
Why are you wanting to adjust the timing? Do you mean the timing in terms of moving the distributor, or the timing in terms of the cam and crank timing which means messing with the timing belt. the timing belt timing being off will make a car run like total ****.

yep...y8 valve covers don't have vtec written on them, only way to tell from y7's is the solenoid.
btw....does anyone know the stock timing on a y7? is it the same as the y8?
wrong, intake and intake manifold are different as well
