testing an igniter unit

Default testing an igniter unit

is there a test procedure for check to see if an igniter unit is still good or not? my manual says ther eis, but then its not in the manual. does anybody know how? this is the igniter unit in the distributor NOT the ignition coil, i already know thats good.

First step is to get an Ohmeter.

well obvisouly. i have that and a whole lot more. with a girlfriend thats an elctrical engineer, and being a geek. i've got that and then some.

I was hoping to have my manual here that shows you how to test the igniter. If memory is still on my side, I believe measuring the middle to outside pins should be 50 ohms. I have to double check when I get home though.

which manual are you using, i've got a chilton book and the pdf of the factory service manual, and i cant find it in either.

thats helpful, but thats for testing the wires, how can i tell if the unit itself is faulty. i assume i can test the resistance on it, but on which terminals and in what range shoudl it be?
