Default Strange VTEC problem

I had the strangest problem this morning.. when i entered the VTEC range after 5000rpm.. I could hear the sound of the VTEC kicking in but I wasnt feeling a push at all.. so I immediately shifted into second and I could feel the VTEC again.. Whats wrong? Is it something to do with my 1st gear only? This never happens to my car.. maybe it was a one time thing..

If I remember well there are 3 conditions to engagement of vtec:

- oil must be present in engine (as vtec is hydraulically operated),

- oil must be hot (don't remember however the exact temperature),

- car must be in motion (it means if speed = 0, vtec doesn't engage).
