Bent valves would throw codes 71 to 74 for cylinder misfires. Is the VTEC solenoid engaging? (This could cause the rev limit.)

pull the head, then roll the suspect valves on the end of a table to see if they are warped.

that is time consuming, never mind.

A simple compression check will tell you if you have bent or improperly adjusted valves.

Most people mistake the intake air bypass (IAB) switch at 5700 rpm for the VTEC engagement on a GSR. However, the VTEC crossover occurs near 4400 rpm and is usually inaudible and imperceptible (as it should always be if it is tuned properly) on a stock motor. How does the motor pull and sound as it approaches this 6900 rpm limit?

well we pulled the code, and it was only the secondary o2 sensor. that shouldnt keep it from revving passed 6800/6900...

dogginator, the motor pulls hard and strong as it approaches 6900rpm's

What happens when it hits 6900 RPM? Does it cut-out like a rev limiter or just quit producing enough power to accelerate the motor? It has to do one or the other. Also, does this limit happen the same for all gears?

Did you do any wiring changes like put in a Vtec controler or something like that???? I ran in to it with my car. I had something wired wrong or backwards and it would only run that high before cutting out. Also try diconnecting the battery for 30 to 50 sec. and connect it again. Try that if check engine light is off and still runs that way then I'm not sure at this point but try that

Your ECU may be in a limp mode. But I'm thinking the limp mode limited the rpm to around 4000. Have you verified that the ECU is a P72? The P/N is printed where the wiring harness connects. It should read 37820-P72-A0#.

Is an aftermarket ignition with a rev limiter installed on this car?
