Default Car hesitated, guages went bonkers

I was driving up my hill today, and all of a sudden the car started hesitating and bobbing, my heat guage sky rocketted, my rpms dropped to nothing, my gas dropped to nothing i beleive, i put my hazards on and my rpms started bobbing with the hazards, i turned the car off, and popped the hood, i was happy the car wasnt overheating since that why i put this jdm d15b sohc vtec into the car (stock motor blown headgasket overheated for months, drove it till it ****), the battery cable was a little loose so i pushed it down, i started the car and had like 8 volts on my meter. I start driving home i was like 1 min away, and the rpms were bobbing, my heat went to normal, i pulled in and turned the car off, the heat guage went to hot while car was off, i tightened the battery cable all the way, started her up and still low volts, my indash lights very dim, turned my flashers on and the rpms still bobbed. Can anyone help me please?

Check the engine harness ground, mainly the one next to the water neck/thermostat housing.

Check your battery for proper power using a voltmeter so you can get a second reading, and if the numbers are coming up low, I would check the alternator. When mine went, the guages went straight to hell so it would be a good thing to check so your battery doesn't completly die on you.

You can always try installing an alternator that you know is good (if you have a friend or something that will let you borrow theirs).

with the car off you should have 12v between the +/- of the battery.

with the car on there should be around 13-14v.

Any D-Series alternator should do unless there are changes between the OBD levels.

use one from any other 88-91 civic/crx.
you can also use one from a 92-95 civic. I does have one extra rib on the alternator pulley but it will work just use the inner 3 ribs for your current belt.
