B16A2 Going for a turbo which one is best? FMAX, DRAG 3, REV HARD??
This comming summer Im going to drop a b16 into my 99 civic. The motor will be fully built with the exception of sleeving the block. My question is I dont know which turbo kit to go with. What is the best? I was leaning towards FMAX on turbokits.com but I really have no idea. I want to get an HKS SSQ BOV but give me some suggestions guys please
If by "this coming summer" you mean next summer than in that time I recommend you search this site and become as knowledgeable as possible on turbo setups and piece yourself together a custom kit
It will be cheaper and much better than any kit!
-You need:
Turbo
Intercooler, piping, clamps & couplers
Exhaust manifold (set up for your turbo)(IE: T3 turbo=T3 flanged manifold)
Down pipe (to match turbo an manifold)
BOV & Westgate (get a Tial WG)
Oil Lines (hit up Stan (Flamenco-t) on here at http://www.fast-turbo.com )
AN EMS System like AEM EMS or hondata
Injectors and a new fuel pump
That is what you need

if this is your first turbo kit. greddy kits are the most dummy proof as they come. bolt on, no modifications needed cept for oil return line. drag requires cutting the block, etc. custom is nice if you can get some help from someone who has done it before.
the beautiful thing about greddy is that it comes with everything you need to run it safely. not the fastest but the easiest setup. the 310 cc injectors taht come wit it and the greddy emanage/blue box will be fine for a while till you get cravings for more. imo a good kit to start with.

i got ek piping for sale and injectors to get you started if u go the custom route, brand new and hondata IM gasket for b16.
greddy sounds pretty good but I dont want to have to buy a turbo set up and then have to replace it all beacuse its too slow heres my plan maybe this will help. Def. going with a b16 rebuil fully with port and polish and JUN parts for valvetrain and some eagle rods and weisco pistons bottom end I want to get about 300 horsepower out of it so if the greddy kit could achieve that maybe that would be the way to go. Custom might be alright but I dont really know what Im doing at all when it comes to that and you said the drag kit requires cutting? what about the FMAX. Thanks for all the help everyone!

i think you could hit 300 wiht a greddy on a full built engine. m/b 15 psi of boost? i can't tell for sure. But i do know that a drag kit will take you there for sure. I think almost all kits out there that offer a big turbo require some mod work. Someone who installed one before, please jump in. the greddy setup is plenty fast imo, it spools up way faster than my drag kit. good enough to run mid to low 13's for sure.

Custom kit is the way to go. If you get a kit you will end up customizing, replacing, or not using most of the parts anyways if u get one of the mainstream kits.
They mean cutting as in shaving the outside of the block bc the turbo, such as the one I have (ITS t3/t4) is so big that is hits the block. Its basically the same size housing as the drag, revhard kits. That is in most cases for a turbo that size on a B series motor. I have a drag kit with a ITS t3/t4 turbo on my 2000 gsr. Only a small amount needed to be shaved off the block. There is definately some mod work needed with turbo kits that come with the bigger turbos, but its def. worth it! I also had to shave some of my fan shrouds for the turbo itself and the intake for the turbo.
Turbo kits are a great way to start out, even if a little custom work is needed. Like in my instance.... Friday I go to Altered Atmosphere to get mine tuned with 440cc, vfac1, walbro 255 on 12psi. YAY!

I recommend a pre-fab kit! Many reason's why, but they take the mistakes and guess work out of the equations, They ( the manufacture) did all the homework and assembled the package, test fit and accumulated assorted to parts to give the best bang for the buck! And if you are or aren't installing yourself do yourself the favor and spend your money wisely. I have installed them all (turbo kits), over the past 8 years , and mean them ALL!!!!! Even the back-yard mechanic special: box of **** scavenged and pilfered from various junkyards, Kids bring me all kinds of this **** to install... Unbelievable what I've seen, nothing surprises me anymore.... Anyhow, any turbo setup will amount to more power than your making now that's obvious, but how well the fitment, longevity, power, responsiveness, and overall reliability needs to be taken into account before buying anything. I always ask my customers for their budget ( how much can you spend) then I put together their options. Everyone wants a 500hp daily driver, but very few can afford it. Bolt on any kit, toss into the equation a jack-*** kid w/ no common sense and a boost controller and BOOM!!!!!!! Shoe leather express. So take your time and research, figure on long-term goals, then approach it w/ not only knowledge but with money! Do it right the first time! As far as recommendation's go, I think the Greddy 18G kits are kick-*** if you have modest HP goals, the fit is A+, A lil more expensive (then DRAG<FMAX<REVHARD) once you ad the FMIC (front mount inner-cooler) and a BOV, but worth the expense if you ad one item as you can afford it. As far as BIG HP Goes, I recommend REVHARD, Hands down great company and product, I've seen tremendous HP numbers from modest boost levels on both the SOHC and B series engines. The new Edelbrock kit should be good as well, not available yet for b-series, but it's quit a complete package, again modest HP numbers though. These are just my 2 cents.
