Default Give me a hand on my GSR/EG (secondary butterflys)

Hi

Since I bought a car that was already swapped Im not to sure if my Secondary butterflys are opening.

I have:
94 VX
96 b18c1
Chipped (custom done by skunk) P28

Of course the P28 does not have any 2ndary Butterfly controls and Im not sure if steve @ skunk actually loaded the maps for them.

I ask because I can not hear them open, I remeber on my old GSR it was pretty clear (audible) when they opened. My VTEC is sure as hell kicking in, there is no problem there.

Whats a very easy way to trouble shoot this?

Cant I unplug the IAB plug and see if I get a check light up at the top somewhere?

Thanks much

no your secondaries are not opening....not with a chipped p28.....you need to get a skunk2 intake manifold or a obd1 p72 to get them to work

at around 5700 rpms you should hear it kick in. also your car does not throw a code if you're IABs aren't hooked up or not working properly.

it doesn't throw a code regardless of whether you use a P72 or not. now how might i know that you ask? because i ran my GSR motor without the IABs hooked up and a P72 and it didn't throw a code. neither did multiple of my friends that ran the same setup as me.

Ok, can someone explain this to me....

I've got a '95 GSR with the usual bolt on's (header/exhaust/intake). At around 5700 rpm I get that way cool GSR growl, and a big jump in power.

Now...is this the VTEC engagement point or the "secondary air intakes" opening? Or are these the same thing?

I've also heard from many people that the VTEC engagement comes on at around 4400rpm. And indeed, if I I'm in, say, third gear and accelerate under say half throttle, real slowly increasing the rpm's, right around 4400rpm I hear an extremely subtle "click". Although I don't notice much of an increase in power. So what's that?

I can't tell you how many fing mechanics/tuners/enthusiasts/employees of aftermarket parts companies (including APEX) I've asked and nobody can give a straight answer!

Anyone?
