I need feed back needed before i go blow some money on somthing i do not need.
I was talking to mechanic today, we were going over the game plan.
I autocross and do tiem trials with the car..........i do not drag.
I have now: b18c block with p72head and, p72 ECU, ITR tranny. No Cat, Apexi WS, CAI, stock heder. I run 14.9@94 mph with 2.5 60ft times on ghey all seasons.....EG civic.
This was my Plan: Hondata, JDM ITR pistons over bore .25mm, Skunk2 Stage2, Valvetrain and Cam gears, P72 head, Bisi header.
He said: CTR Pistons stock bore, p72 head, Hondata, Type R Cams, Cam gears valve train.....exct
The car has to run on 91 octane, cause somtimes i race where there is not 94.
Said i would get more midrange and usable power with the ITR cams over the S2s2 camsb but loose 10whp top end but have more usable power. We both agreed on Toda but i think those are expensive (yes i know it's all epsensive...like $1000 tires and $1000 shocks)
What do you think

Well...
Either way you go, you will like the results. Your already running a P72 head? Why do you have it listed as a future upgrade? Just curious.
I say: Buddy Club III's (better mid-range than ITR/CTR cams), full valvetrain w/ cam gears (Skunk, Toda, BC), Hondata, CTR pistons .25 over, AN/R header/Bisi Header.
The CTR pistons will increase your compression ratio a little, plus the overbore will give you a bit more torque...a bit. I would say with that setup...around 190whp with tuning on 91 octane (safe guesstimate). The AN/R header/bisi header are both great bang for the buck. DTR,SMSP, and Hytech are big bills and make a bit more power...$1k entry price.

No the P72 is just included in a list.
CTR with stage 2 shunk2 clear? witha p72 head?

p72head +ctr pistons are really close up top.
i would sacrafice compression for the ability to use bigger cams.
also u will detonate with the type ofuse your car sees on 91 with ctr pistons i believe
what are u lookin at 50 seconds of WOT runs and then 15 minutes of coodown in between runs?
oh yea skunk2 #2 cams are better in the midrange than some people might think.
not only that but with autox usage i would be looking at a stiff valvespring that will enable rev of 10,000rpm plus, that way u dont have to worry about falling out of vtec or loosing time due to shifting at inopportune times

Hmmm...how close is close for the CTR pistons? From my understanding, CTR pistons with Hondata is do able on 91 (DEPENDS ON TUNING!!!) octane.
If he used flat faced valves with stock pistons and a 1 layer head gasket would he be okay? That could let him run higher lift cams and get increased compression (close to 5/10th's?). Or would the flat faced valves, thin head gasket, and high lift cams be too close?
Not doubting the S2S2's. I like the BC's mid-range a little more though. S2's are still excellent cams for the money.
What kind of clearance are we talking about w/ the P72 and CTR's? I'm curious because I may someday run this setup.
Why not just get the whole ITR short/long block?

Nice dyno...never saw that one. Guess I didn't look. Is that the setup you want? GSR block isn't bad at all.
I would personally do some jdm itr's or some b16 pistons. CTR's pistons are heavy and will put you at about 13 to 1 for comp in a gsr and is pushing the limits for 91 octane. As far as cams if your looking for good midrange I would go with Buddy club spec 3+, skunk2 stage 1's, or toda a's or b's.
that motor is a good example that compression does not always make HP
thats a 190whp motor.
my friend made 190whp with an itr motor and header+cams+intake. stock exhaust.
now lets think a second, do u want a 190whp car thats a bitch to tune and has a large possibility of detonation on very hot days or do u want a car that runs great on 91 and is more reliable?

my vote for JDM PR3 pistons and those cams. ull make nice HP

everyone hass an opinion, and mine is PR3 or JDM PR3 if your never gonna spray or any FI
if ur FI use JDM R or usdm R (they have thicker ring landings) or forged if u got cash
i was having trouble getting the timing i wanted with ctr in my gsr, and ended up using c12 to get the timming that i wanted out of the motor.
edit:sorry meant p30
