I heard that gutting it takes the bottom end away but gives more on the top 6-8k, true or false... Why?

Or will it just f*** the car up and make it louder?

Gutting doesn't make it louder, but it does give it a really annoying hollow whistling sound. Do it properly and get a high flow cat or test pipe, also you've then still got the cat to take it back to stock if you need to.

Dont gut it out because it will cause the CEL light to come on and that will be bad.

And don't get the GOD speed test pipe becuase I heard they don't fit right.

I put on a test pipe before and of course the CEL light came on but yes it did pull alot harder after 5000 rpm. When I put on the Carsound cat it wasn't as storng anymore. Then I got my RSR exhaust and it pulled hard again.

We tested a stock manifold with a 2-1/4" carsound cat and stock exhaust in the Great Header Test. Stay tuned for the results.

Don't buy a powercore race cat from landspeed. I bought one and pulled my **** off and went to put the race cat on and it was 1 1/4 inches to short the falnge was welded about 40degrees off and the O2 sensor would hit on the body I called them and they claimed to have a 01 ITR there with the same cat on. I took pictures of it next to the stock and sent it back. According to them there must be a couple of different types of cats and exhausts that were put on the ITRs. I don't buy that because my header bolted right up and so did my cat back exhaust system. The race cat that they sent me was nothing more than a cherry bomb. And if you gutted your cat or went with the race cat you should loose some low end torque because of the camshaft profile once the v-tech is engaged you should gain because of the longer duration and lift on the lobes. Alot has to do with valve over lap and the RPMs you are at. On my apex I have a slincer that I put in for back pressure for cruising and to get more low end torque. On the weekends I pull it out so I can get a few more horses in the high rpms. That is what I was looking at when I was going to put a race cat on. Hope that I might have helped. Good luck.

Powercore are very High quality. Maybe u got a JDm spec that would acount for the cat being short. And they do have a 2001 ITR there with that cat on. It runs a JDM spoon header.

ditto.

Test pipe = ~$50-$100

Cat = ~$200+

Don't gut it because it still won't flow as good as a 2.5" test pipe.....

How would you know if something is wrong with your car if the CEL is always on?
