HELP!! car starts put dies after 10 minutes
well its a 99 gsr motor and this started about a week ago. driving down the freeway and all my lights start dimming, cluster quits on me then the car becomes sluggish and finally dies. tow it home and change out the battery and alternator and it still will only fun for 10 mintues and cuts off. Anybody know what could be the problem? thanks
Check your engine grounds. I was having similar issues but not as severe. My lights would dim, colent temp gauge was all fucked up, and my air fuel ratio gauge would always read lean. It turned out that my tranny ground was loose. Let us know if you get it fixed.
Sounds to me like your alternator isnt hooked up correctly. Try starting the car and putting a multimeter on the battery. When the car's off the battery should have a 12.x voltage, and with it on the voltage should be up to 14.x. It really really sounds to me like your alternator just isnt recharging your battery.
I don't know how to check it but, try to find the way to check the fucken (only if I can remember what it is called), the **** that controls the charging of the system. Like on fords they have this gay *** connector and everytime it would disconnect itself alternator wouldn't charge the system and the car would just die with the same symptoms. If anybody could remember what that **** is called?
EDIT: well I found out that it's called a voltage regulator. It's built into the alternator on the honda. The green plug goes to it, is it hooked up?

yes its hooked up.. but still not workin.. could it be a ground of somethin? or do you guys still think its a alternator related problem??

Test your battery. If it's not charging that could be a problem. I know that the car can run without a battery but I don't remember why it leads me to believe that it could be a problem.
If that doesn't work, I got nothing else to say. I would just whip out a wiring diagram and bury my self in endless hours of diagnostics.

i would check igniter on dist. if its not alternator or battery. Check all the fuses. Oh and that part was a Voltage Regulator that ABK was saying

well i havent touched the car for 3 days and it started right up today.. drove it for 10 minutes and while idling, i pulled the negative off and it kept running! i thought my problem was gone.... but then i drove it around agian and hit a bump, the negative came off and the car shut off... is it a bettery problem or something more serious?

maybe you are getting an open when you hit a bump. I don't know but this sucks, you might have to do some long diagnostics, electronics suck. Or just get a used wire harness and reground the engine.
