Default best cam gear on market? lightest?

which cam gear would everyone say is the 'best' on the market?

the Venom Fang gears claim to be the lightest, would they not be the best b/c of it? Anyone use them w/out issues. They only have 4 bolts compared to others like the new AEMs which have 5 bolts.

Anyone have anything against the AEM cam gears, because i'm going to do a dealership by in with AEM and i'll just take them for my engine. As long as there isn't any major problem w/ them. However, i'd like the gears to be as light as possible.

thanks.

i searched and couldn't find much.

The new AEMS have more than three bolts. I will have to check into those.

why do they put more bolts on? Because they used to slip.

Whats the best way to guard agains slippage? lock bolt design...period.

i think i'll stick w/ the new AEMs, their 3 bolt design has worked on many cars in the past.

I have heard on more than one instance the AEM 3-bolt one slip, causing valve damage. Hell, my best friend's LS had this happen, good thing the motor was stock and no damage was done.

Maybe consider the material it is machined from too.

Skunk2 and Toda = 7075 aluminum (NICE)

Most others = 6061 aluminum (cheaper quality).

I suppose you could also consider bolt design, readability, weight, blah.

Edit: Seems to me that Skunk2 has 6 bolts and 7075 aluminum... still under $250, not bad.

my previous quote was stating that I am considering the new 5 bolt design, over the old 3-bolt.

still a good heads up though.

nobody has mentioned anything about STR cam gears.....they have either 5 or 6 bolts and they are like 175 for the pair on ebay. What kinda aluminum are they made of? I dont think im gonna trust anything made my junk2 anymore after hearing all the negatives about their stuff breaking

Would you neccesarily want the lightest, or the closest to factory weight?
