I think you would need some special tools but I am not sure what tools you would need. I would suggest you to take it to a transmission shop and have them rebuild it. It is kind of tricky job.

Or maybe you can go to a pull-it-yourself junk yard and find a car (whatever you have) with low miles. One junk yard here would let you pull the trans for $75. My son fried his trannys twice (both with 5th gear) and we got both trannys from the junk yard. The one he has now is running just fine. (the other one was just rebuilt and we were elated when we found it but only that it got fried after a couple of months - he did not double-check the fluid after installing the tranny and the 5th gear which is at the highest point of the transmission got fried when fluid got little low). if you decide to go to a junk yard, look for one with low miles (or at least the lowest miles all the cars you find.) and take out the 5th gear cover and see if gears in good shape or not. if in good shape, you can take the chance and pull the tranny. Be sure to double check the fluid after a month or so.

Or you could try ebay, I have seen a couple of trannny out there.

Just be carful when puling the case apart and the gear sets out. There is a bearing on the top of the back gear set that is just sitting on there. if your not careful when taking the gear sets out the bearing will fall out and split. Easiest this to do is tape the gear sets together with electrical tape and them pull them out. Much easier to keep them together. Good luck. FYI its not really that hard. Only took me a couple of hours to rebuild mine.
