Type-R head on a B16
Just wondering if anyone has a b16 with a ITR head mated with it. Im looking at getting a b16 complete block minus pistons for 400 with a Jun Clutch and flywheel from a freind and i would like to get a typer head would it be a noticable difference do you think or would i be better off with a stock b16 head. Keep in mind im going to sit the motor over the winter and built it so im talking about a bare head with all new valvetrain and cams and such things as that. Let me hear some opinions.
You won't see a major difference between the 2 heads. Very mild port work, better valvesprings/retainers. If you're planning to work on the head anyway, and you can find a cheaper B16 head, might want to look toward that. The cams and intake manifold are the biggest differences, but it sounds like you'll be upgrading those anyway.

Personally, if it was cheaper, I'd go with the B16, knowing that I was going to change the things that make the R head more expensive anyway.

agreed depending on what you are going to pay for the ITR head compared to the b16 head you amy be able to swoop up the b16 head and get some decent port werk done to it

From my understanding, the Type R head and B16 heads are the same cast. The ITR head has better springs, cams (obviously), and I beleive a mild port job. But the acctual head itself is the same.
Not to sure on the going rate for an ITR head, but it might be cheaper just to get a B16 head and do the internal work.
Just my 2 cents.

I guess it all depends on what you consider a 'port job' to be. As I understand it, the B18C5 head has simply been cleaned up a little around the valve seats to make for a smoother transition between the seats and the head casting itself. This is certainly not much. And I can understand how some people may not consider this to be a 'port job'. But it is something. And it does help somewhat.
