Default Is it possible to lose a timing belt and not have piston and valve collision?

I found out today that I may not have did as much damage to my cylinder head as I thought and I know that the F22 runs lower compression than the H engines. Is it possible?

Yup It just happened to a friend of mine who has 9.0:1 compression pistons in his H series.(getting ready for a turbo). His auto tensioner went bad and his belt came off. But no damage was done.

My friends civic had its crank pulley fall off on the freeway, then the timing belt came off and shredded up all the plastic on the side. He pulled the head and it was all fine. But it was just a little D15...

yeah it was pretty fucked up. We were going about 80 on I5 south and saw this thing go rolling from under the car. It still ran for about a mile before the belt slipped off and we took the offramp and luckily made it to a ross parking lot. I wish I would have got some pics of the timing belt after it had cut through the plastic on the side.

It had 200,000 hard miles on it.
