AEM EMS Auto Fuel Mapping... is it as easy as it sounds?

My question:
Is this as easy as it sounds?... can any average joe do it, or is there more behind the hype..? I'm sure there is more to it than picking your target AFR and getting an accurate Uego controller and thats it......

It doesn't work very well. Its more of a gimmickey thing than something usefull. I spent quite a bit of time playing around with it when I had my ems. I wouldn't bother trying to use it imo.

I thought it worked pretty well at tweeking a good map to begin with, but should not be used to creat a map?

they havent made many updates to the auto fuel mapping code in over a year. i can tell bc it has had the same window resizing bug it has always had and none of the other menus have that problem.
automapping isnt exactly easy to use either. it takes tuning of the automapping system before it can auto tune fuel the way you want it to. Its not as simple as comparing enigne output AFR to a target AFR and making the nessecary fuel changes. The user has to specify how much deviation from the target AFR is not acceptble and then what to do with that by either a % change or a multiplication of the current fuel value. And then set weighting on the fuel values so it knows not to change it every time it samples that fuel cell. So it could find a fuel cell that needs less fuel to meet the set target AFR but if you have the multiplier set up wrong it could actually add fuel and each time it sampled that same cell, see that it was still off target and add more fuel lol.
So as you can see its sorta complicated. As lengendboy says its a gimmack.

Im going from experience when I tuned my AEM EMS.. I found the automapping to work great as long as the settings are all correct..
If your going to try it out I would make sure you understand what each of the parameters are and what they do.. Get on the AEM EMS web board and read on there about it.. I was able to tune my car perfectly with this feature when I understood how to set it up correctly..
I found the best way to do it is to set the fuel map a little rich and then let the automapping lean it out..
